Hello,
I have had a few eye problems...My eyes were feeling very dry and I wear contacts, so I stopped wearing them for a few weeks to see if it helped. I made an appt. with my opto. Turns I have mild disintegration of my corneas, basically, I am not producing enough tears and my eyes are "drying out." On doctor's advice, I started using Thera-Tears 6x a day and have already noticed an improvement. I also get pain in my left eye, sometimes my right one as well. My opto is hoping that once my corneas heal, the pain will leave. I'm hoping that as well! Also, I did not go to a specialist or anything. Most if not all opto's have experience with patients with thyroid problems, since they are very common. Just make an opto appt. and get things checked out. You don't want to take chances with your eyesight.
Mellowscout...best of luck.
You should probably see an eye specialist who deals with thyroid eye disease. I have what they call mild TED but it's no fun. My eyes are bigger than most people and I take flaxseed oil tablets every day to help with lubrication. The symptoms are all over the place and being eutyroid (normal TSH) doesn't always correspond to TED getting better. Stay hydrated, keep your head elevated when you sleep and lubricants help.
I had graves/hyper/goiter about 15yrs ago. Just recently i was diagnosed with Thyroid eye disease.
My symptoms are very dry, burning eyes, puffy under neath both, raccoon eyes, they will burn more when staring, or in the wind. My eyes buldge slightly, I basically do not have a lot of protection from wind, sun, (hence the burning).
Right now I use eye drops, and eye oniment to keep them moist. I will eventually need surgery, but not at the moment. Sometimes I get relief by pressing something cold against them. The neuro opthamologist told me that i have dry patches on the film that is supposed to protect my eyes.
Sorry could not be more of help.
I guess I am interested in less of a diagnoses from people about me and more of their own personal thyroid related eye experiences since I am not sure yet about myself since my blood work has yet to be done. My first endo appt. is next week. I think there is a good chance I have a thyroid problem, but it's not definitive.
So, I am very interested to know what eye symptoms people have when they are diagnosed with thyroid. I know the textbook stuff. I want to know the stuff the doctors don't necessarily talk about. Please tell. I am very curious. Thanks.
Hi ,
It is true that when you have hypertyroid this is one of the symptoms .I get that when i am in hyper state this whole summer i suffered and doc. first thought i have allergy in peak summer i doubted it but continues his allergy treatment but then when i did my blood that explain i was very hyper. i adjusted my dose and atleast i have some relief now from that .Since you didn't mention about any blood work i am curious about that especially thyroid ?.
take care
I've been tested for Lyme already-I don't think I have it. Plus everyone in my family has endocrine related disorders. My uncle has the Grave's ophthalmology too. I am pretty sure my problem is endocrine. I could be wrong, but I've seen every kind of doctor under the sun. The endo is my last stop.
I thought i had a Thyroid Problem also and have had terrible symptoms for 10 yrs. Many of things you have. I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease. I also have floaters really bad. They just are there and sometimes i can get them out but then more come. This has bothered me for years and now I find is a symptom of Lyme.
