♦♦♦FAT♦♦♦ w/ hypothyroidism - Is there a Medical Miracle Cure??

I am digging deep lately on this major topic millions of thyroid patients are asking -  as I am one of the many who want a resolution too. Dozens of questions pop up here that always reflect the same question.

"How can I lose this fat I gained becoming hypothyroid?"

There has been many conversations on RT3 (Reverse T3 hormone) Free T3 testing and TSH labs. Along with cortisol issues.

This article below can really give a some answers or "theories"  into most of these questions. As always I am open to learning more information on "why" and more importantly learning "if" there can be a resolution to this catch22 we thyroid patients endure.

Below is a clip of this information.

"It is not simply a problem that individuals are taking in more calories than they are consuming or lack of exercise or willpower, but rather it is a complex vicious-cycle of endocrinological and metabolic dysfunction. Contemporary medicine has failed to address these dysfunctions in overweight individuals and doctors and patients continue to believe that all cases are a matter of willpower and lifestyle. Thus, it is no surprise that obesity is reaching epidemic proportions."

Could it be hormone issues causing to our weight woes?? Amazingly, I read about a hormone - Leptin - that could be most of our problems trying to manage the weight. Impressingly, this article even lists labs and "ranges" we need to be in if our weight resistantance is caused by Leptin and Reverse T3/ Free T3 intolerance.

You can read the full article at -

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kent-holtorf/long-term-weight-loss---m_b_192933.html

I will be googling more information on the Doctor featured in this article ( Dr. Kent Holtorf ) and I encourage everyone reading to do the same. Also the ratio of Free T3 and RT3 that has a strong effect on metobolism.

There is another great resource I am reading from Dr. Jack Tips, CCN on weight and the chemical hormone factors associated with hypothyroidism. The Weight is Over is the book I am reading at this time.

I really believe after I had my RAI for Graves that "something" caused a "disturbance" to my metobolic functions. I am far from obese, but I want the 30pounds off and want answers. I am one of many who "cut the calories" and stop eating all refine sugar - processed meats and carbs to attempt to lose the added weight I gained. I believe those steps were good for my overall health, but the weight still lingers with minimal weight loss.

I guess I can write that off then until I find a new doctor as mine ALREADY thinks I'm a hypochondriac - I can only imagine what he'd say if I went in asking for MORE tests.  lol

I suppose it's another push for more proper testing that we have to do being a thyroid patient.

Me too ---- the weight thing........... No amount of cutting back, eating "healthy", exercising, etc will make a difference.  I can even gain weight by NOT eating... I'd sure like to know THAT happens..............

I've read some about the leptin and reverse T3 also, but how to get tested for it when the doctor believes it's all MY fault because I "eat too much and need to MOVE MORE"???

Even going on cytomel didn't make a difference for me, which REALLY surprised my pcp.

I was reading the link you posted, when one of those side ads caught my eye.  So yesterday I bought "The Gabriel Method".  I've been trying to help Hubby with some weight loss.  I think he's borderline hypo, but at 3.0 TSH, the Dr. won't treat it.
He just sleeps at any oportunity - 10-14 hrs. a day.
I was listening to the audio downloads that came with the purchase.  It just confirms what I've been saying all along.  You cannot lose weight until sleep apnea is resolved!  But you can't lose weight when you have sleep apnea because it messes up your metabolism.  And being overweight causes sleep apnea.  So it is a REAL catch 22.

The other important point is that you have to eat raw, unprocessed food.  Food that has a life force.  Well, I already do that.  The guys think I'm a 60's throwback hippie health nut when I try to force it on them.  I started power juice several years ago.  It just does a body good.  I actually burned up 2 juicers.  Then I was diagnosed hyperT!  Did the juice cause it?  I doubt it, but it kinda makes me wonder.

Last month I went a little hypo.  Felt really icky and gained 6 lbs.  The Dr. up-ed my Levo three weeks ago.  This week 5 lbs just fell off by eating fresh melon.  I know logically it was from the Levo increase.  But the unprocessed food thing can't hurt either.

I know there are days when I try to excercise...it's just a couple of minutes in and I am exhausted to the extreme...I just want to crawl into bed....cover up (because I've gotten cold of all things) and sleep for hours.  Used to be, when I exercised, I'd get kind of pumped up and feel good.  Those days are gone.

I think the RAI i had messed up my metabolic systerm, but no one listens to me....

I think it effected everything wrong with me NOW.

But I have a different metabolic issues. I never became overweight and currently at a steady weight of 96lbs (lost 30 lbs unintentionally). My diet is the same as always has been. I eat a lot of protein and salty chips (can't help it i crave it..) I in no way excercise. I do work.

My last TSH (April 09) was .67 and I am currently taking 125mcg.

Did RAI treatment, but did not work, so had TT.

I did read her information from time to time. She is really interesting.

The article above talks alot on the reverse T3 on people who I assume have no thyroids left and are struggling with weight.

I don't know if I would call this  a miracle cure, but I just started reading Jillian Michaels (The Biggest Losers trainer) and I found it very interesting.  You are right when you say we have to get our metabolism moving!  Also, which I found shocking was all the toxins we are putting in our mouths!!  I can see why thyroid problems have been increasing in the last few years.  Jillian is also hypothyroid. She feels what she ate growing up might of had something to do with it.   It's nice to know that if she can look that good, we all have a good shot at it. We don't have to go to that extreme, but we could if that's what we want to look like. It is diffinately going to take some hard work and giving up some favorite foods, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  The book is called Master Your Metabolism.  If you go to one of the bookstores, you can look through it without buying it, to see what you think.
