HI, I  CAN RELATE TO YOUR PROBLEMS I ALSO HAVE A NODULE @ 5.2X2.6X2.6CM. I HAD THIS FOR 7YRS.  DR ALWAYS SAYS LETS JUST WATCH IT !  I HAD THE RAI ABOUT A YR AGO AND NOTHING CHANGED. IT WAS ACTULLY 4.8X2.4X1.6CM PRIOR TO RAI.  IHAVE PRESSURE IN MY THROAT, EAR AND NECK PAIN, HOARSE ALOTS, DRY COUGH, ALWAYS FELLS LIKE SOMETHING STUCK AND IF YOU GET STRESSED ITS EVEN WORSE. I THOUGHT I WAS JUST LOSING IT AND WAS ALL IN MY HEAD CAUSE THATS THE WAY THE DR ACTED.  MY TSH WAS 30.2 SO I FELT TERRIBLE.  BUT NOW THE DR IS GETTING CONCERN, ITS A COLD , COMPLEX NODULE, DIFFUSELY INHOMOGENEOUS ALSO, NUMEROUS SUBCENTIMETER ADENOATOUS NODULES ??? I HAD MY LEFT THYROID REMOVED 18 YRS AGO.  BUT THE DOCS ALWASYS TOLD ME IT WOULD BE RISKY CUZ OF THE SCAR TISSUE AROUND THE AREA OF PRIOR SURGERY THEY ARE CONCERN OF VOCAL CORDS??? I WOULD HAVE IT REMOVED BEFORE IT GETS ANY BIGGER. SYNTHROID OR THE RAI DIDN'T HELP ME. I WISH YOU THE BEST!!!

I was diagnosed with a multinodular goiter last June.  I was put on a small amount of Synthroid to try and supress it but it didn't work.  It grew to where you could actually see it in my neck.  The whole reason I knew that something was wrong with me was that I had the heart palpitations  along with many others you listed.  My labs always came back normal.  Finally, when I was able to get into an endocrinologist, she waited 4 months to see what would happen.  She suggested a TT in January.  I had my TT on 2/14/07.  I was cleared by my endo last week.  All of my levels are normal, and I'm feeling better than I have in a long time.  Best of all, the heart palps are gone along with the other symptoms!  Maybe you should look for another endo doc...sounds like your thyroid needs to come out!

I have had many of these same problems. Did they check your antibodies for hashimoto's or graves? Some dr are something else. In 1995 both of my lobes were so enlarged , my TSH was normal , I lost about 30 lbs, was in a constant state of anxiety, hair fell out. My neck, ears and jaws were in so much pain I could barely turn my head........Guess what they did sent my to physical therapy, and put my neck in traction, I got sicker!! They kept telling me it wasn't my thyroid. it took 18 years to get the proper diagnosis...Right now my right lobe is swollen, I have hashitoxosis, and yes it feels like a golf ball at times, my jaw and ears hurt, shoulder pain and headaches. (last time it was all on my left side).... I had to keep pushing this time to gey them to run more tests, when he found the antibodies in April, he said the lab made a mistake last July when I first started seeing him.  Have a full thyroid panel done. Others here know more than I about numbers, Uptake scans, biopsies etc....just don't let the doctors blow you off or stereotype you. You know your body best of all. Research hashimoto's, research Graves, goiters, and I found a wealth of informations at  ALLTHYROID.ORG, and they even have a toll free number where a thyroid information specialist will take the time (FREE) to actually talk with you. They were actually the ones who had me insist the dr run antibody testing.
Best of luck to you,,,,others here are way more informed than I...and have been awesome in answering questions for me.

Pam:))
