Feeling of something stuck in my throat

I am a 55 year old mother of 3.  For 2 months I have had a sensation in the left side of my throat that feels like I have something stuck there.  It is also extremely dry, as is my tongue.  My Dr. has tested my blood sugar levels because of the dry throat.  They are normal.  I have had a barium test of my throat, esophagus & stomach - no acid reflux and throat/esophagus looks normal.  I've had a throat xray - normal.  I am suspicious of my thyroid because for at least 3 years I have had low body temperature (35.8 to 36.3), hair loss and low energy but the medical tests of TSH, T3 and T4 always come back normal.  I have an appointment with a ENT Specialist in a few weeks.  I don't use iodized salt and have used sea salt for years. Any suggestions.

? 1. FT3 and FT4 are the free streem of real thyroid hormone "able" to flow to relieve your hypo symptoms. the T testing is only total - stored hormone measurements and useless really - to best determine what's still off thyroid wise.

Your doctor seems to be a believer that thyroid and Hashi's is the same. Don't buy that. Push for the US scan and the TPOab and TgAb autoimmune tests or find someone who will.

The best range of hypo sufferers find symptom relief and wellness when both the Free's are high (er) on those labs. The Free T3 is usually at the very top and the FT4 is mid to high.

I am going to try to get my dr. to refer me for an ultrasound but as I said to Stella, she just put me off when I suggested it to her before.  Do you still have symptoms with the meds that you are on?

Thanks for your comments Stella.  Do you know what the difference is between FT3/4 and T3/4?  Do you know what the normal ranges are for FT3 and FT4?  I suggested an ultrasound of my thyroid and my doctor just put me off and said that that wouldn't show anything.  Thanks for your help.

You are describing the very first symptom I had of Hashis.  It was about 5 years ago and I went in telling my doc that I felt like something was stuck in my throat.  He scheduled me for a thyroid ultrasound and bloodwork and found the problem.  I was diagnosed with Hashimotos Hypothyroidism and put on Levothyroxine.

Yes - here are my thoughts,

I think you have not had the right thyroid tests. Please see the word free in front of the tests I list below

Free T3
Free T4
TSH

On the free testing you may need to decifer them on your own to see if you fall in the high range of the reference based off the labs.

FT3 is usually on the higher end of the references
FT4 can sway mid to high

That range is best for many thyroid patients to relieve symptoms

You could be Hashimoto with the swelling and choking feeling.

A TpoAb test and TgAb test ( bllod) could tell if you are autoimmune

Definately get an ultra sound to see the condition of the thyroid.

Request those tests above to really know if thyroid is causing your issues
