Fine Needle Aspirition for cyst, with ultra sound guidance. Core biopsy on Thyroid tissue actually taken.

Does anyone know what this all means?:
Had both U/Sound and Fine Needle Apiration guided with U/Sound.
All bloodwork for T3, T$ and
Isthmus: 7.5mm AP. Lt.: 3.7 x 1.9 x 2.3cm. Echogenic node: Mid lobe: 7.7mm. Rt.: 4.0x 2.2 x 2.5 cm. Upper lobe originally diagnosed as cyst - 1.2 cm. Mid pole echgenic node 8.0 mm.
Thyroid blood tests normal, witin last 6 weeks. (Checked reg., due to large family history of thyroid dis.)
Fine Needle Aspiration, U/S guided Biopsy originally for cyst aspiration, but doctor decided to take core samples of a hard nodule, with fluid covering.
PRE-OP DIAGNOSIS: Multinodular, right lobe; R/O carcinoma.
TISSUE REMOVED: Right lobe thyroid nodule
GROSS DESCRIPTION: Submited in formalin are (5) light yellow delicate thyroid tissue core biopsies that range from less than 0.1 to 0.5 cm, in greatest dimension.Tissue segments are Inked black. Entirely submitted in one cassette.
DIAGNOSIS: Right lobe of thyroid, core biopsies: multiple cores of thyroid tissue most likely represent portions of colloid nodules. What is this??
Comment: Submitted cores of thyroid tissue are comprised of follicles of varying sizes that are variably filled with colloid. Appreciated are scattered foci of lymphoid infiltrate and oxyphilic change. If they represent multinodular process in the thyroid glands, they are most likely from colloid nodules. Alternatively, they may represent chronic thyroiditis. There are no architectural or nuclear features of papillary carcinoma and neoplastic process is highly unlikely.
Concerned bout these big words! Thank you:)

I never stop being amazed at what the medical profession will hand someone and send them home.  :-(

Colloid nodules are non-malignant nodules in the thyroid.  They are what 90-90% of thyroid nodules are made up of (thyroid tissue).  Your core biopsy results show that there was NO cancer found.

Here is some information on colloid nodules and what they mean.

Of course cancer can never be completely ruled out unless the gland is removed and sent to pathology but your results are GOOD (meaning no cancer found).  Your doctor may recommend following the nodules with regular ultrasounds in the future.

They gave you GOOD news - it would have just been better if they would have explained it.  :-)

Congratulations.

No problem.  Many of us have been there - medical jargon in our hands and nothing to do with it but panic!  NOT FUN.  Glad I could help.  When are you talking to the doctor?
