I have been on Methimizole for almost two months and recently started feeling gum and teeth pain out of the blue as well. I thought it was from clenching at night but now I’m convinced it’s the drugM

Hey there! I have been on it only 5 days and my upper teeth and gums are hurting like a dull ache. Dr said it was not the med but I’m convinced it is. Did you find out if yours was?

Morning! Well, i called the dentist. They offered me three appt's to choose from. I chose the earliest as WHO wants to walk around missing half a tooth on the outer side. $271.00 later i have my tooth repaired. They also charged me an emergency fee of 65.00 which i thought was unfair since i never said emergency and they offered three dates and times to choose from. Oh well, it's done. But with xrays, i am going back again next week to have another old filling replaced before the same thing happens. Hopefully this one will be cheaper. I hate having no insurance.
Now, another question. (sorry) With graves, my eyes are not bulging but they feel like grit more often than not. I had lasik 5 years ago. It needs touched up, How long do i wait until i go to the eye dr. I was told to wait until the meds and my levels were stable for 6months. it's almost that now. If i should just get glasses i can go now i guess. And is the redness and grit feeling ever going to ease up. Thanks in advance! I sincerely appreciate your comments.

Yes I do believe that a lot of childhood penicillin did the damage to my teeth although I can say I had excellent dental treatment as my Father was in the Armed Forces for 26 years so we had the best dental treatment at no cost.
One good thing the Armed Forces did back in those days.

Yes, Sue, you are getting older, normal for your teeth to be breaking. Try not to let your dentist put a crown. Most crowns are not needed.

Antibiotics have a lot to do with developing permanent teeth and that is in the childhood. Nothing to do with you taking prophylactic antibiotics. A big problem that I see today is insurance companies dictating fees and many dentists do not get paid much for fillings but a lot for crowns and that's why so many people get them. However, I blame dentists more than insurance companies. If they were not signing the contracts to limit what they could do, patients could be better off.

Dentists have become prostitutes for the insurance companies and not patients. Very sad for my profession.

I am going to my first appointment with endocrinologist and I will tell him that if my insurance will not pay for something, I have cold hard cash for his time, medical school training and knowledge. No receipt will be necessary.

Sorry about the ranting, in my office patients come first and how I feel about myself and my work.

Many thyroid persons have teeth issues.....
My teeth issues are from being bron with a heart murmur and having ear, nose and throat problems as a child and being on a lot of Penicillin.
Also too...with dental treatment I have to take a 'stack dose' of antibiotics (allergic to penicillin now) an hour before dental treatment .
I was told by many Dentists that long term Penicillin and Antibiotics have affected my teeath .
Guess age might have something to do with too lol.
I have Graves too.

Thank you so much! Actually i do go regularly. Next appt is Dec 13. I have since a kid always made sure i had my teeth cleaned every 6 months, Maybe it's just a bad tooth, there is a filling that is probably 35-40 years old. It's still intact, but the outer tooth is chipping away today.. Makes me crazy! I'll call first thing in the morning, Now as far as diet, i found your comment "so not me". I drink water 98% of the time, raspberry tea others. No Coffee other than an occasional one if i go out to breakfast. Have not really been a junk food eater either. Salad bars are tops in my book, veggies, not big on meat. Cholesterol is around 126, HDL and LDL are very good. Guess i'm just getting old at 51. Thanks for your comment. So much is happening with weight, eye's, skin, etc since dx of Graves, i thought maybe teeth too.

I am a dentist Sue and your teeth could be cracking from grinding. Check with your dentist ASAP. Teeth do NOT, I repeat DO NOT crack from thyroid issues. If you do not go regularly then it will not be caught or corrected.

My experience is that most people eat garbage food, drink everything but water and then blame their dental issues to something else.
