light or medium auburn..turns out nicely on dark hair.....when I was young I used the dark auburn and as I got older lightened up....I think I got orange because of too many years with one color....but it did go orange , but it was yrs b4 it did.

LoL to all, right now Id love to be a rocker chick sounds fun, bring on the dye, ahh the good old days, I have been every color hair the only thing i cant pull off is black, my skintone is too light and i look totally goth with black hair, Im gonna try semi permant until my hair stops falling out or i get my blood results back would not suprise me if dr raised my synthroid level.

Lucky you...I always wanted to have red hair...and even though I've colored for years I've never taken the plunge.  Unless you count my unfortunate encounter with sun-in back in the late '60's...my very dark hair turned orange (not like Lucy...more like the crayon)!!! LOL

My friend (natural, pale blonde) colors her hair red at home and it is beautiful and so natural I didn't know she wasn't really a redhead for years....maybe just us "brownies" have trouble....you know the look....magenta, purple, orange (not good unless you're young, goth, a rocker chick or?)....scares me since I'm long past the young, goth rocker chick time of my life......   :)

...I do my own at home..I went to a salon once and did not like what I got....I get more compliments when I do my own...even by the salon owners!! L'oreal ...and I get it on sale for $7.00!!!whooooohooo.....gotta save these days.I can get away with every 6 to 8 wks with the coloring....only because my hair is longer and I brush, curl and whatever to hide the skunk line.....almost like a comb over, but not...lol.

My fear of going to any salin is that they don't have experience coloring natural red hair. From what I've ben told the gray hair in a natural red head has pinkish hues and that makes it difficult to know what to expect.

I have almost black hair....at least I used to at some point in my distant past....I started going grey in HS (the '70's!!!).  I've been coloring my hair for years....and have a skunk stripe every 3wks and who knows what else would show up after that :o

My hair has nerver thinned or fallen out from coloring...but...I go to a salon (same one 10yrs) and only do the part in between.   I think if you can afford a professional (and check around for a good colorist...some are definately better than others!!!) you get better color results.  Good Luck

Sandy

I also use monovision contacts and love it :)

On the topic of granny glasses -   If you can tolerate a contact lens, it is a WONDERFUL solution.  Years ago I decided that I would never wear glasses on a string around my neck!  I chose monocular vision.  I wear one contact +2.75.  So one eye sees great at a distance, one is great for reading.  For most people, the brain adjusts and it is like having perfect vision.  You don't have too close one eye to read.  Your brain compensates automatically.  Also, you don't have that 3 second delay when you look up from your book.  Instant re-focus!
The new lenses are trouble free.  Wear one for a week and toss it.

Having surgery and sudden hormone changes can cause a shock to your system and can cause a temporary condition called Telogen Effluviun.  Normally seen 2-3 months out after a huge stress to the body. I did this a few years ago when I had my gallbladder out then 6 weeks later got hospitalized for pneunmoma. I personally lost about 1/4 to 1/3 or my hair about 2-3 months after my illness but it did grow back. Not only did my shower drain confirm it but my vacum as well. :o Juli

lol....if I were to let it all grow out I do believe my entire head'd be gray!!....My eye dr didn't give me a rx for glasses.....what magnification of the "cheapos" do u use?...mine r 125xs.......the only thing he did give me glasses for is driving at night.....to reduce eye strain.......maybe I should just ask for rx glasses.....

I have cheapo readin glasses and ones from the eye doctor. I notice a huge difference with the ones from the eye doctor as they are adjusted differently for each eye.  The cheapo ones are the same for each eye.  I just keep my good ones next to the computer and carry the cheapo ones in my purse when I go out.

When I don't color my hair, I have a reverse skunk tail, as I'm darker in the center with white on the sides.

.....same here, but lately my vision has been blurred...most  likely my hashimotos...I use drug store glasses...eye dr says I don't need perscription glasses, but I can't see!!
Well after reading all this I guess I'll go and get my hair color 2morrow!..My "skunk tail" is growing in big time.....lol

Its the reds and red highlights that seem to be a problem when coloring hair.  That's why I've always gone with the semi-permanent. I figure if I don't like it, its gone in 4 to 6 weeks.   I've tried a few brands and found L'oreal Casting Colorspa to work best.  Reds come out orange on me, but I've had good luck with the golden browns for some reason.  I'd love to go permanent, but I have no idea if the same exact color in permanenyt will do the same exact thing as the semi-permanent.

my natural color is brown with red highlights,  I used to look almost strawbery blonde in summer from lots of sun , this problem is definatley from the combo of menopause and thyroid they did a blood draw to check tsh levels last week, I should find out nest week. I just dont want the greys and cane like Selma said. A semi permant color may be the ideal  idea for now thanks all.

I never heard of a red head being more prone to thyroid disease.

Being hypo, you can go gray faster.  Are you a natural redhead? Natural redheads tend to go gray faster and natural redheads are more prone to hypothyroidism. I am a natural redhead, though going gray at the temples.  Being a natural redhead, I am so afraid of using permanent hair color. I've been using a semi-permant shade called amber (lightest golden brown) and it blends in pretty well with my hair. Of course where the gray (white) is the color is a little lighter than I'd like.

If you are experiencing a lot of hairloss, you may want to look into T3.  Either by adding Cytomel to your T4 or by switching to Armour or Thyrolar.  The hairloss stopped for me, as soon as I was taking both T4 and T3.
