Hashimoto's Symptoms Not Going Away

I have Hashimoto's and continue to have the symptoms related to it.  What I was wondering was if I have normal lab results shouldn't the "brain fog", dry skin, blurred vision, etc.  go away or are you doomed to have it forever?  It's the "brain fog" that I am having the most difficulty with.  I have been on 75 mcg of Levoxyl for about 2 years now and while thyroid function is okay, I'm not.  My blood work shows: T4 free 1.2 (.8-1.8), T3 free 289 (230-420), and TSH 2.16 (.4-4.50).

I have Hashimoto's too. I had my thryoid out in Dec 07 But unfortunately especially when I get stressed my Hashi's plays up. Your TSH at 2.16 is slightly in the hypo range.  This is common with Hashi's. You probably need to go up a small dose to see if that helps.
I have been doing research and finding that any one with anti-bodies will have them attack the T3 and thus cause symptoms of being hypo. Often it is an extra bit of T3 that can make a difference I wonder if you could try some T3 supplement for a while and see how you feel.
Hang in there! I have just become hypo again for the first time in 2 years and it really is the pits!

No that is not normal.....did he give you an explanation? Were you put on T3 only to lower your reverse T3?
What are you on now?

If you are experiencing those symptoms and your thyroid levels are still coming out fine, I found out through my new Rheumy that the antibodies for Hashimoto Thyroid Disease can still be producing the hormone in your body.  You need to get the Hashimoto antibody count checked in your body.  I found out last week that I may have  a disease called "Hashitoxicosis".  I will be getting my results on Monday, the 20th.  I've been going up and down for 13 years, I've had the shakes, nervousness, sweating, rapid heart rate to being freezing cold, and low heart rate all of the time.  I just had a 24-hour halter monitor put on because my heart jumps from 88 bpm to 110 bpm just when I stand up.  My doctor thinks that I have damage to my heart from this being untreated for so long.  Make sure your doctor checks your blood to see if your Hashimoto antibodies are active in your body at the time you feel different.

I hope this helped.

Is it normal for a dr to put you on cytamel for a week or two and then stop it?

You are still having severe symptoms because you are being under treated. You aren't on enough medication. Your TSH should be supressed to at least a .50-1.0 with straight T4 meds....your Free T4 should be in mid normal range. Your Free T3 level is too low.....your conversion looks to be a little slow. Your Free T3 should be in high normal range. You might ask for a trial of Cytomel (T3) medication.
For as long as you are being undertreated, my endo says it takes twice as long for the body to heal after it has been at optimum levels.
