Hashimoto's and substernal goiter?

I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease and my thyroid is inflammed, the resulting Ultrasound indicated some abnormal "Nodes" on the bottom left and right side of my thyroid. I am currently awaiting a call from my doctor on where and when i can receive a FNA to check for cancer which i am not too concerned about.

What i am concerned about at this point is the last few days i have gotten lightheaded and dizzy really easily and a little out of breathe, also my neck is looking swollen, which is fairly normal, but i am very tender at the base of my neck at the top of the sternum. it hurts to touch which has never happened before.

I dont know for sure but i didnt think the thyroid went down that far so my question is what are the symptoms of a sub-sternal thyroid goiter? is there anything specific i should watch out for until i can get in to see my doctor again?

I have severe inflamation of the thyroid, and I have a abnormal "Nodule" on the right and left side of my thryoid, But so far no one has used the word Goiter to describe anything. I dont really notice a shortness of breathe when i raise my hands over my head, but my dizziness and disorientation increases slightly, and blurry vision.

I have an appointment next week and should get a phone call to schedule some other tests but I was just concerned cause way down on top of the sternum is the most tender, but i suppose i can ask the Doctor in my next visit and not worry about it to much till then.

thanks for the info, i am trying not to self diagnose to much...

If elevating both hands above the shoulder level causes shortness of breath, that can be sign of retrosternal mass or substernal goiter.
Usually thyroid pain is caused by subacute thyroid inflammation .

I cant answer on the symptoms of a sub-sternal thyroid goiter, im not even sure if that would show on a scan? But with Hashi the antibodies can cause the gland to swell and be sore to touch when it is inflamed a lot of us have this problem,  could very well be that. Do you know if you have a goiter at all? This can cause your symptoms of breathlessness, dizziness ect but so can just the inflammation of hashi..
