Honeymoon Period

Is there a Honeymoon period when you first start taking Levothyroxine?  I started at 50mcg and I felt really good for about two three weeks.  Then gradually I have gone back down to almost where I started from.  I am fatigued again and other symptoms have returned.  I called the Endo and asked to raise my medicine but she wants me to come in for a TSH first.  Only a TSH.  My TSH was not that high to begin with.  So I am worried that if it is not that high that she will not raise the dosage of my medicine.  Or do you think she just wants to make sure it is not too low?  I am going Saturday for bloodwork but it takes them about a week to get back to you.

Has anyone had this happen where the medication worked good just for a short time and then had to be increased?

Dont ask for FT3 and FT4...demand it.
Tell yr Doc that you have researched many Endocrinology documentation and the TSH alone is useless.

If he/she still says TSH only...go shopping.
DOCTOR SHOPPING.

Thanks for the response. I agree completely. I did get them to schedule FT3 and FT4. Whether she will use that or not is another story. Is there something we can provide our Endo's so that they are more knowledgable?

A TSH alone will not tell much. I would highly suggest that you firmly tell her that you want to have a free t4 run with your TSH.....later on you can squabble with her to get her to run a free t3. An endo should know better than to only run a TSH.
Yes it is very possible that you need an increase. You may have felt better at first from the boost your metabolism got from starting meds....but now is leveling out in your body.
