Hypothyroid - TSH over 100

Hi, My husband has been diagnosed hypothyroid with TSH over 100, and FT3 and FT4 a bit bellow the range. He got couple of kg weight, and got easily irritated, but had no other obvious symptoms. He got 100mg  Euthyrox and scheduled check in 2 months. TSH over 100 is a shocking value, but seams treatable with regular use of medicine. Anyone with similar symptoms? Any additional advices? What could cause such high TSH values and almost normal FT3 i FT4?

We've had a lot of members with TSH that high...

Your husband's hypothyroidism is treatable, but it must also be taken very seriously, as the thyroid controls many functions of the body, such as metabolism, heart rate, temperature and others.

He should ask his doctor to test for thyroid antibodies to determine if he as Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, which is the most common cause of hypothyroidism.  The tests he needs to have done are Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (TPOab) and Thyroglobulin Antibodies (TgAb).

With Hashimoto's, the body sees the thyroid as foreign and produces antibodies to destroy the thyroid.  The destruction, typically, takes place over a long period, but many of us don't even realize we have it until the destruction is almost complete...

Your husband will need to have thyroid hormones tested at regular intervals and will most likely have to have his med adjusted along the way, as well.
