Hypothyroidism and Medication

Hi,

I was diagnosed with subclinical hypothyroidism about 2 weeks ago.  About 1 year ago, I had a physical done and my blood work was perfect.  I have been taking the generic for Zoloft, Sertraline, for about 8 months now.  I did another physical 3 wks ago, and it showed my TSH levels off and my Cholesterol as 276 with high LDL cholesterol also.  My HDL level was high, which is great.  I exercise and eat very healthy.

My question is, if Sertraline caused the hypothyroidism, which I have found several articles that imply it could've, will stopping the medication automatically reverse my subclinical hypothyroidism without taking medicine to offset my thyroid levels?

Zoloft use can change how much medication you will need. It shouldn't cause hypothyroidism. I tried a search.
Th high cholesterol may be a sign of the hypothyroidism. Also depression can be a symptom as well. I would look at it like this: You became hypothyroid, and in turn, got depressed and cholesterol increased. Then you were diagnosed. Give the meds time to work and make sure to get follow-up blood work to re-check thyroid and cholesterol levels.
If you stop the Zoloft at any time, make sure to re-test thyroid levels as they may need adjustment.
My sister is on Zoloft and Synthroid. If you have any links, would you mind sending me a message with the links? I'd like to read them to check out the possibility of it being related.

Hypothyroidism is known to cause or worsen preexisting depression.  
Antidepressants causing hypothyroidism, I don't thinks so  However, on the other hand, I don't know everything.  ;) ;) ;)
