Hypothyroidism

Is anyone else out there having trouble with digestion and having a lump in the throat sensation?  I swear it seems like my whole body has changed since this all started back in April of 07.  My thyroid levels are in the "normal" range but I still feel so, so bad.  Feels like food doesn't digest properly, I get tired from taking the trash out, have alot of gas that comes up my esophagus.
Is this from the thryoid medication?  I don't recall having anyone of this before I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid.  I have no energy to do anything as well.  Tired of doctors looking at me and saying I'm fine.  They need to have all their residents read some of these forum posts I think it would open their narrow mined views on how patients should be treated.  Instead of looking at the black and white like the " normal range" of TSH why not listen to the patient.  We know our bodies far, far better than any doctor ever will.

Oh yes - and the lump in your throat. I have it constantly - and I am working on getting to the bottom of that now.

YES!! there is a connection with your thyroid issues and your GI distress. Although most doctors do not want to put them together it does exist. I have battled with IBS and acid reflux for over two years. I have done a huge amount of digging with research on this. Although not proven, I have found that when I went Hyper - on meds my acid reflux is uncontrollable. No med either Rx or ever the counter touched the pain. When hypo - IBS would flare.  I do not feel the actual medication is an issue - it's how the medication is working in your body.

Since I was not regulated for 4 years after RAI my body was like a rollar coster going up and down - as did my GI tract.

Recently I had a med change to another thyroid med and it has stabilized me with an enormous relief with these symptoms.  I believe getting your TSH - free T3 and free T4 in line will benefit you with these issues.  I am not quite there with my TSH levels - but close - and I have no issues regarding the GI distress I was having.

Until you get those under control, which doesn't happen quickly, try to eat very carefully,

Follow the norm - stay off fats - get some fiber in your diet - back off alcohol - limit smoking if you do - Take a digestive probotic whether yorgurt or ?? - limit spices and acid foods especially.   Get a good muti - and B's are good! - Try to walk - I know you are tired but limiting your excercise will only slow your GI tract down more and will cause more uncomfortable symptoms.

If your current TSH has not been that long at 1.39 that may be your issue too. You  (may) be used to being a little hyper since you said you feel better below 1.0. I went through that mind game. I was used to being "all over the board " for many years now that I have seen the best (or worst) of two worlds - I am really taking a closer look and what really makes me "feel better". Even if you may have been mild hyper for a long time - you will feel different being in the normal ranges and that doesn't necessarily mean you aren't right.

Hope this helps - and get better soon.

I have digestive problems as well.

I agree with DLA. sounds like you haven't found the magic number yet. How long have you been at your current TSH?

Sounds like you are still hypo.  Sorry, I'm going thru the same thing with my endo.  My TSH is 1.39 and I feel good below a 1.0.  She won't listen, either.  Am fixing to have to fight my way thru this again.  New dr or make this one get smarter.

Unfortunately that is the norm for all us thyroid folks, we have to fight with drs a lot to get them to listen and if they don't. . .new dr.  Horrible vicious cycle I've been in for almost 8 years now.

Be tough and make somebody listen.  Wish I could tell you how to go about that quickly and successfully, but I obviously don't have it yet.
