Insomnia

i had a TT Jan. '11. I was initially on 100mcg of meds and then was upped to 150mmcg. That seems to be working ok, but the lack of sleep issue is driving me mad! I thought that perhaps after the cancer was removed and the medication was regulated that I would be back to sleeping fairly well. This is not the case~I am currently taking 10mg of ambien and I often am awake hours after I take it. Has anyone else had insomnia with thyroid problems?

Insomnia is a symptom of both hyper and hypo.  I've had it off and on for years.  If it's really bad, I take a tylenol PM (recommended by my endo), but usually, I just ride it out.

If you have a copy of your latest lab report, you might post the results, along with reference ranges, so members can see where your levels are.  That might help.

Have you had your adrenals checked?

I am hypo and I suffer from insomnia. It gets worse when I change doses. That is a sign for me that I am too anxious and that there is something wrong with my dose. If it does not get better for a reasonable time I know I have to do something about my dose. I do feel that is also related to sex hormones fluctuations (PMS and all that.)

I do not take anything, I just try not to take naps, and if I definitely cannot sleep at night I do not fight it. I start writing, reading or watching TV. Sometimes it works.

Yep. I was diagnosed with hyper/graves/toxic goiter.

Insomnia is the one symptom that NEVER went away. I also take ambien, but it only works about once every three weeks, so I only take it once every 3 weeks. Ambien only lets me sleep about 2-4hr straingt, that is it...I have tried others & all the same.

I had a TT about 17yrs ago and insomnia decided to stay. I am used to it though, so not an issue for me as of yet..

When do you take your meds (time of day)? What thyroid meds are you taking (Armour? Synthroid?) and when was your last thyroid panel test? Are you taking any other prescription, over the counter or herbal meds...including vitamins? When do you take them in relation to your other meds?
