Itchy Skin

My husband just had some blood work done, and they checked his FT4.  It was .58, and when he brought this up to his doctor, he blew it off as no problem. My doc did the same thing, and then I found someone who understood my readings better and started treating me.  The result was excellent.

My question is can Hypothyroidism cause a man's skin to itch for no reason?  My husband has times when this happens, and no doc or tests prove any other explanation.  It drives him crazy and he itches until he breaks the skin and causes rashes.

A good thyroid doctor would be checking free T3, free T4, and TSH.  Free T3 is the most important because it is the most active component.  People who are hypothyroid usually respond best when their free T3 is brought into the upper part of its range.  You and your husband need to find a good thyroid doctor who understands this and tests and prescribes medication accordingly.
