I have lingual thyroid also, one of the best Dr around to treat it , is luckily at University Of Chicago in endocrinology. Dr Sam Refetoff
I have to take synthroid to try and decrease the size of the gland and i carry a med alert bracelet so if something were to happen, the paramedics would not intubate me with a regular tube, they would use a fiber-optic tube so the gland won't be injured

I have a lingual thyroid.  It's far enough up my throat that I can clearly see it when I open my mouth wide and look in the mirror.  I've never had an endo that is freaked out by it.  I have had some people feel my "thyroid" (neck) and make comment only for me to say, uhhh, that's not where it is...  It's annoying when I get a sore throat and such because it swells and I can feel it back there.  Other than normal hypo issues, I've never had a problem with it being lingual or with any doctors.  I have wondered what the dentist thinks, but none have ever made comment.

Lingual thyroid is a defect in fetal development that leaves thyroid tissue (often your only thyroid tissue) at the base of your tongue. At some point in the first month after conception, the tissue is supposed to drop down to the base of the neck. That's the normal location for the thyroid gland. If the thyroid doesn't descend (about 1 in 100,000 cases), it's trapped in a space where it can't function completely normally and doesn't produce enough thyroid hormone.

I'm looking for an endo who isn't freaked out by this. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks a bunch.
