I'm also going to be 49 in March, so there's always the possibility of menopause. I should probably just shoot myself now and spare everyone! (just kidding)
I went from size 6 to size 4 last year, before diagnosis, but it was from working out at Curves. I probably just toned up. This past year is when my TSH shot up to 130 and over the course of the year I've gone down another size, so it's been gradual. Plus, I swear they're making clothing sizes bigger!
I'm not sure how much help the Nioxin is, but I can't afford to close any doors. No, I haven't changed my synthroid dosage (88 mcg) in months. And I'm hoping I won't because I just had to order 90 days worth...
My last labs mid-December were all within normal: TSH, cortisol, ferratin, B12. Yet I'm exhausted, depressed and have muscle aches. I'm starting to cry at the drop of a hat for no apparent reason. To top it all off, my PC doc is leaving this week to have a baby and not return to practice. I can't decide whether to schedule an appointment with my new PC, or just go straight to the endo. I'm in no immediate hurry to do either because money is tight, and of course the deductables started all over on Jan 1.
I guess this is probably just the erratic nature of Hashi's, and I'll suck it up and ride it out for a while.
Wish me luck... ;-)
My sister went on vacation and got down to a size 0 because she wasn't exercising. Exercising helps her keep on weight because it makes her more hungry. (I, personally, think she's hyperthyroid but she doesn't listen. She keeps saying 'I feel enraged today' every other day.)
You should definitely talk to your doc about your weight loss. 6 to 2 seems dramatic.
I'm sorry that I don't have any advice for you! Just wanted to say that I'm not mad AT you.....a little jealous maybe, but not mad! I think I found what you lost and then some! Either way, it's not good. I hope things start turning around for you soon. I've read that Nioxin is good, and may have to try it. As far as not having to shave your legs.....now THAT'S a bonus!
Like barleypop said, go ahead and whine. That's what you have all these wonderful people out here for, and sometimes it feels good to let it right on out.

I stopped using Nioxin too, it didn't seem to be helping me. I am still taking biotin and EPO. My fingernails are growing like crazy.
Feel free to whine....I am the queen of whining lately!! I did hear that it is common to shed more hair in winter months. You would think it would be the opposite. Did you have your dosage changed at all? I read that changes in dosages can cause your hair loss to start up again.
I am going to the dermatologist on Wednesday and try to figure this thing out for the third time!! It couldn't hurt to go see a dermatologist too if your regular doctor can't help you with the hair loss. My endo keeps saying it isn't my thyroid making it fall out but the dermatologist says its my thyroid (round and round we go!!)....very upsetting!!!
Yep, losing it again. I had about a 6 week reprieve, but it started again. Someone wrote on here that the hair goes in 3 month cycles, but being the dead of winter in New England, you'd think I'd be like an animal and get a thicker coat...
I did stop taking my Biotin, Evening Primrose oil and using Nioxin for a while. That could be the problem. I had my labs done mid-December and everything (TSH, ferratin, B12 and cortisol) all came back normal. So I got my hair cut fairly short on Saturday, bought some more Nioxin and will be good about taking my supplements. I was going to make an appt at the dermatologist to see if I had alopecia, but the hairdresser (who also has thyroid issues) said I would be losing it at the hairline and in my lashes and brows (which are okay), so she didn't think I had it. However, I haven't shaved my legs in days, and there's barely anything there... so I don't know what to think.
Guess I'll see how it is after a couple weeks back on the supplments and go from there.
I haven't been exercising because too tired and the holidays. My husband is on a home improvement mission, so my eliptical got put in the basement. Guess I'll have to whine for it to get moved back up, but if I whine, I'll have to really use it, and the energy thing is still iffy.
Sorry for whining.
whoops, I just saw that you are losing you hair again in your profile. Sucks!! Maybe it is because you are losing weight. This is a very frustrating battle!! If you thyroid levels are normal then is your ferritin?
I'm not! I was losing weight before I was dx as hypo which I thought was a bit strange. Since I have been on meds since Sept, my weight has stabilized an I have maybe gained a pound or two. (It might be because I am eating lots of protein many meals trying to get my hair to grow!!)
Have you had you levels checked lately? Are you exercising? You actually might not be eating enough if you are exercising.
I had my body fat checked about a month ago and the trainer told me the amount of calories I needed to eat every day to maintain my weight and muscle mass with the amount of exercise I do and I was amazed...it was a high number (over 2500 calories a day)!! But I am addicted to the gym and haven't had fatigue as a symptom at all so I haven't had to cut out my exercising.
Maybe check with a nutritionist if you think you are losing too much weight.
on another note-
I talked with you a few months back about hair loss and you said you had stopped falling out. Is you hair still doing ok? I am still waiting for mine to stop but I do think I have new growth, it is just hard to tell if the short ones are falling out too!!
