Low grade fever

The lightheadedness has gotten better but I have been running a low grade fever for a month now. It is weird because in the morning my body temperature is 98.6 sometimes even a bit lower but 2-3 hours after taking the thyroid medication I am getting chills and low grade fever that is usually between 99 - 99.8 and it lasts pretty much all day. I also have and increased blood pressure during the day 132/74 with heart rate 89. Could this be because I am taking too much thyroid hormone? Or is it something much worse? Has anyone experience temps like this while on Levothyroxine?

My breathing worsened the other day and I was in a bit of a panic and took a bit more thyroxine than usual and within about half an hour to an hour my breathing improved. Thyroxine works pretty quickly for me.

Pulse pressure is normally around 40mmHg. Eg: 120/80 = 40.  Your pulse pressure is 58mmHg so you have a very high/wide pulse pressure.

Causes of high/wide pulse pressure includes:

Atherosclerosis
Arteriovenous fistula
Aortic regurgitation
Thyrotoxicosis
Fever
Anaemia
Pregnancy
Anxiety
Patent ductus arteriosus
Aortic dissection
Heart block
Endocarditis
Raised intracranial pressure

You won't feel effects of the synthroid within hours, because it takes several weeks for it get into your system.  What you're feeling now, is because of med you took a few weeks ago, not just today.  You were started on too high a dose and it's going to take time to get it out of your system.

I've had night sweats for many years -- long before I even started on thyroid hormones.  You could be in a peri-menopause phase that's causing that, as well.

When I'm hyperthyroid for any reason, my blood pressure rises, pulse pressure widens, heart rate rises, and body temperature rises.

Also, prior to taking this medicine I never had problems with elevated blood pressure.

Thank you so much for your response. I am fairly new to all thyroid related problems. I am hupothyroid and have been diagnosed with a multinodular goiter and Hashimoto Thytoiditis. I also have discomfort if compression symptoms when I am swallowing and laying down but I feel the choking fullness sensation all day. I am frwaking out a bit because I had an FNA biopsy that came back as atypia if undetermined significance. I'm naturally worried about cancer. I want my thyroid removed as I can't take these symptoms anymore. I was started on .75 mcg but definitely went hyper. My t4 was elevated and I had tremors and a whole list of symptoms. My first Endo put me in that dose to try to shrink the goiter / inflamed thyroid but I couldn't deal with that dose so I went to another Endo who gave me 50mcg but I just started taking the new dose today.

Several years ago, I was taking Armour thyroid after it was reformulated and I stated to get fevers. At first I thought I was coming down with a flu because it would happen maybe once or twice monthly. Then it became more frequent. I began to experiment and took  myself off the medicine. The fevers, chills, and aches went away.

You are definitely experiencing a side effect of the thyroid medication. By the way, the medication can also raise your blood pressure, too. I have been taking thyroid meds for six years now, I have numerous side effects from all types of thyroid meds, and I am constantly thyroid toxic.

You should call your doctor and report the symptoms and you may need your does adjusted or perhaps be switched to another type of thyroid drug.

Best of luck to you.
