Lump in neck?

I recently posted this inn the cancer section, and then noticed someone had a similar issue. So figured id repost here incase someone here could help me, incase its a thyroid nodule. Thanks.

Hello. I have a Dr. appointment this week for another problem, and plan to ask about this. But until then, I thought I would ask here.

Right near my adams apple, theres a small hard lump. Really small, like maybe alittle bigger than a pea. If I tilt my head back, and move my adams apple, you can see it move with the adams apple. But if I mess with it with my finger, u can feel it move alittle. So I am thinking its attached to the adams apple or something near the adams apple, but not very tightly.
This tiny lump is sorta below and to the side of the adams apple. It is alittle uncomfortable to move it with my finger, but other than that, causes no pain or other issues. I noticed it last night by accident.

I think I may have felt it in the past, but cant remember.

Is it normal to have small, hard, just slightly smaller than pea sized bumps in this area of the neck? Or is it a good chance of being cancer?
I will ask my Dr this week, but I am hoping to get some peace of mind until then. Thanks.

Im praying he will feel it and say its nothing, and that I dont need testing.

Not as much as because im scared of the testing, but more so because I have no insurance. I simply cannot afford all that testing.

Mine is palpable (meaning you can easily feel it) and it moves when I swallow (I can see it).  Please don't worry, thyroid nodules are VERY common and very rarely cancerous.  Only around 5%.  The first thing after my OB discovered the nodule was to get my thyroid hormone levels checked.  When they came back normal (this can be an indication of cancer, since hormone producing nodules are generally not cancerous), I was sent for an ultrasound and was then referred to an Endocrinologist for the Fine Needle Aspiration of the nodule.

Your doctor needs to do an imaging study of your neck - either ultrasound or CT scan, etc. to see what it may be.

If you have an adam's apple, I'm going to assume that you are male.

Thyroid nodules are very common, although more so in women than men.  Try endocrineweb.com as a good reference.

It does sound like its a thyroid nodule, however, I dont know anything about growths on the adam's apple.

My nodule is so big it looks like an adam's apple, and i'm a female.

Good for you for finding "it" yourself.  Your doctor will most likely send you for an ultrasound and bloodwork, and depending on the results of those, possibly further tests.

This is a great forum.  If you DO have a thyroid issue, you'll find plenty of support and knowledge here!
