Medicine help

I take Cytomel and Eltroxin for hypothyroid(born without one). Right now, I have a cold. A measly common cold, that I can't take anything for. I experience an incredibly rapid heartbeat and tremors when i take ANYTHING for cold or flu. My doctor told me to expect this. I've tried many, many different types, brands of cough syrup and pills, advils, tylenols but anything with a decongestant makes me feel like im on speed. Is this really normal? I can take medicine for coughs, but as an asthmatic, i'm used to coughing, it's the stuffy, runny eyes nose and head that kills me. Do I really have to suffer? Has anyone found anything that works for them? Am I just really sensitive to it? Also, it's hard in my job, I don't take much time off at all as I am usually very healthy, but my manager still seems to give me a look or a tone when i call in sick, as though he doesn't believe I can't take the medicine, just won't. Anyone else have these problems?
Maybe I should add that I had a hole in my heart and have a heart murmur, maybe that has something to do with it.

Have you ever tried the Zicam cold products. I like the swab variety for the nose. It comes in several forms and if used at the beginning of a cold can stop it in it's tracks and definitly makes it less severe. Also, my 10 year old daughter was born without a thyroid gland too. Would love to hear anything that you'd like to share about this withn us as it is rare to find others who are like my daughter.

Boy do I symphathize with you! I react the same way! Even to the nasal sprays with decongestant in it. Unfortunately I suffer greatly as well if I get a cold or sinus infection or anything that causes stuffiness....it stinks!
I now use a nasal spray that I mix up with essential oils that clear me up quite a bit naturally. Also I will use a neti pot type of nasal rinse too.
I can't stand the side of effects of decongestants now, it scares me, so I do not attempt to take them.
