Menstrual Cycle

After starting Meds I have had cycles on average 50 days. I thought after you got ones levels into range the menstrual cycle was supposed to normalize. I have had about 3 50 day cycles since I was diagnosed and started meds. Before my cycles were 37, 49, 34, stopped taking birth control in mid October. Was just wondering if anyone knows if this is normal for a women with hypothyroidism?

Ok, thanks. The weird thing is that he have only gotten farther apart. I have been on meds since feb. 20. I test again in 2 weeks.

The reason I came off the Birth Control was because we were trying for a baby. I know I want my level in control before that happens now. But having my cycles some what normal too. I can't even tell when I am ovulating.

Hi there. Yes it can be like that with hypothyroidism. Mine used to be regular as clockwork, once getting hypo they start to move closer together, and become heavier. That's usually one of my early warning signs I am becoming hypo when the dates no longer match my calendar!
How long have you been on medication? It can take a while for it to really kick in. It may need to be upped a bit to help reduce the hypo. It may also be an idea to get your female hormones checked too. The pituitary gland is responsible for the release of female hormones. Often if you are hypo these will be off as well, as the pituitary gland releases TSH. This hormone is often high in numbers when you are hypo.
   Hope that helps a bit!
