Mirror Mirror on the Wall!

Calling all aromatheraphy experts --seeking SLIPPERY advice.

Thyroid Awareness began for me at home -- during a violent, finger prodding 'punch up' in front of the mirror late one night recently, with tears and anger aplenty, over the confirmation of a large nodule and the well-meaning desire to 'have it out' so to speak with my thyroid ----as if IT where the enemy!  A member's recent posting -- calling her nod - 'little buddy' ---started me thinking that perhaps it was time to make peace with my thyroid, and try 'loving hands' (as opposed to violent ones!) to affect change. (eg shrink nod or at least support hypo symptoms better). I hadn't appreciated how close to the skin it is, and although my acupuncturist is rather hands on with it, I hadn't been (fear? anger? ignorance?)----until recently.  The New Pact with my thryoid includes daily massage--- so that is the nature of my question ----does anyone know what is a good oil to use for the thyroid?

I have been using castor oil packs (castor oil theory --meant to dissolve nodules--no snickers pls!) and Bio-oil (that's good for scars) but wondered if anyone does have a 'hands-on loving relationship' with their thyroid, or the area it use to be in if a TT happened, and has a better recommendation?

Does anyone think such a relationship could be beneficial? I guess part of my thinking along side quelling irrational feelings of war, is that backs get massaged for way less criminal activity than thyroids, yet touch treatment never gets a mention for certain thyroid conditions.  As always gang ----thx for your helpful comments.   : )

Thanx Laura - I hadn't thought of the paraben, etc, nor had I thought about the Burt's Bees products.  I've used some of them in the past and they do work well.

This weekend, I did find a cocoa butter oil that I rather like.  I can put in on my hands and very lightly touch my neck to get some on there.  My skin is so dry, it only takes a few seconds for it to soak in; that way I do not have to massage or rub it in.  Guess I'd better check it out for things I shouldn't be using though (chemicals).

Thx guys ------I don't suffer with painful thryroid inflammation, so for certain thyroid conditions am assuming 'light touch' is ok still......like for my nodule, but 898---I hear you and thx for the warning.

Whenever I have inflammation just below skin elsewhere in my body - I find Ibuprofen Gel very helpful?

In the meantime, I will still hunt out a possible SAFE 'touch assisting agent' and report back.

---- kgstiles.com---mentions Ledum or Labrador Tea Oil as supportive to the thyroid, and Myrtle.

----herbalremedies.com-----sell something called Thyroid Support Wellness Oil ---a mixture of jojoba, clove, geranium, juniper, allspice, and cinnamon -----------at least no mention of cobra!!

----lemon balm oil has been test proven to reduce stress.

Thx Stella for your very wise words -------am so on page with you about 'internal forces' involved in the healing process!!!  So easy to forget how linked they are (and perhaps before illness happens - be unaware even!), and yes, peace is what will deliver overall healing.  I suppose the peace I seek at the moment is in knowing that I have turned over every possible stone (internal and external) to achieve wellness and balance.  It takes time and energy though, and sometimes the stones are ridiculously heavy and seemingly unrelated, but as I am fast learning about the undeniable inter-relatedness of the thyroid to our whole being---the mission has become appropriately critical and extremely worthwhile!

Acupuncturist is very positive about what we are doing together as she has had past success with similar cases; time will tell I suppose.

Thx Laura about mention of parabens --- good to add to Toxicity List on my other thread!

: )

Well, most lotions and creams have parabens and chemicals in them. I only use all naturals. If you want something inexpensive you can find Burts Bees products in most stores....they are very close to being all natural.
If you want to try something else I would suggest just using some coconut oil. I finally stopped using all products containing anything with parabens and chemicals, but I pay the price for them!
Try the Burts Bees products first....it may do the trick! Their products have essential oils in them.  :)

I'm getting good results with Nivea with Q10.  It is body lotion.  But I'm using it on my face and neck too.  The area under my chin looks crepe-y (not creepy).  Eventually, it will turn into a hereditary turkey waddle.  I'm going to fight it so that doesn't happen.

Thanks Laura.  Icing does help and so does taking an Aleve; however, when my "alligator skin" flares up, I just have to get moisturizer on it or I end up scratching my skin raw.  Do you have any suggestions for something that might work best without having to rub to hard?  It is painful sometimes.

If you have any inflammation at all, do not rub your thyroid. I always use an ice pack.
If you are using lotion or oil for dry skin, etc....then apply softly.
The minute my thyroid even starts to feel funny, I start icing it and it makes the world of difference!

I was going to ask if chamomile or lavender might work since they are both calming, but now that I know massage should be avoided, especially during periods of inflammation, I will ask if it's ok to apply lotions/oils without using pressure.  My skin gets very dry and itchy and I have to put something on it or it will make me even crazier than I am.

Applying pressure to thyroid during neck massage especially if thyorid is inflammed should be AVOIDED.

WOW

not sure if I am the right one to answer this. I know I am known to be an "out of the box" thinking for alot of things especially on the thyroid stuff.

But you are going beyond my thinking for sure. Not in a boad way - just over more that I ever had thought.

Touch therpy is good and I have touched that thought alot - especially lately. Not thyroid related per say - but I deal alot with stress and realize now - when toughed - it does make me feel good.

For heaven's sake my husband was rubbing my head last night like he does with our dog - but IT REALLY felt good.

Lucky dog!!

I do however believe that there has to be an inside healing to a degree along with an outside touch therpy to work. Whether it is mind - body and spirit therapy along with internal changes to make the body well again.

I haven't gotten to the thought of my thryoid ( as deflated as it is from RAI) being my little buddy :)

Yet I believe in order for me to live well making peace with the disease in general is what I work on.

No - I don't have any oils in mind to grant you that miracle we all search for. I wish I did.

What is the acupuncturist saying? I found great help there too.
