Multivitamins I am using, please comment it..

I am trying to avoid iodine, which is still controversial for hashimoto's.

Following is the multivitamin I am using, (A prenatal multivitamin, although I am not prenant), which contain 17% 25 mg of iodine. And that is one of the products which I have searched hard to avoid the annoying herbal ingredients now in many supplements even in Centrum. It came from Nature's way.

It seems that the calcium, iron and Mg are a little bit low in it. So I can supplement them in addition?

Selenium in it is very good IMHO, just 50 mg, which could not be overdosed.

Although the multivitamins' quality may not be so perfect. Would it hurt to take such a multivitamin daily for us hypothyroidism? Shouldn't we strengthen our nutritional intake? What do you think of it?

I am finding with my supplements the best outcome for me was switching to a thyroid based supplement package.

From what you listed above - that does seem very weak compared to my daily package.

I "was" taking many pills to supplement, but got tired of swallowing them all every single morning. I went in search of a "drink" and found a thyroid specialist Dr Teitelbaum, made a certain formula

It is made by Enzymatic and called Fatigue to Fantastic. Not only is it formulated for specific thyroid issues - hypothyrodism/Hashimoto - but it is packed with very important amino acids that most people ignore for proper health.

Yes it has iodide in it - but a very small amount - I think less than your kelp additive.

In regards to your concern of iodide. I do have TPO antibodies and take Ioderol 50mgs daily also. It has eliminated the choking feeling in my neck and even keeled me off. I believe the addition to selenium has helped me too.

My antibodies counts have dropped - but I am not sure if it is b/c of the iodide or the new supplement package - or ????

I am just happy and feel much better since getting this formula/

fragrance- Yes the cracked cell wall is what you want. I now take Dr Mercola's chlorella, and yes you can take large amounts. It's like food. Just build up to it! :)  I usually take mine 1/2 hour before lunch and dinner. It is a good absorber of toxins as well.
I love it and always feel better on it. It's just good nutrition! :)

Really?! laura,,,The brand I take is from Japan---Yaeyama,one tablet is 200mg.  It is said to be with the cracked cell wall as the salesman claims. What brand do you take now? How do you feel about it? improvement?

On the instructions,it said that one can take 5-10 tablets every day with an empty stomache...--that is amazing...How much do you take every day? and when? you know we should take thyroid hormones and multivitamins in the morning and at noon.

Yes, you are right. And the tests for so many nutrients cost a lot especially periodically, IMHO, if we measure our daily diet/nutrition as a  dietician (nutritionist), we could know something about it. Even "healthy" people need dietary supplement. I know with limit enzymes, I can not take much in the "small" stomache, and that leads to poor nutritional status.

Chlorella is wonderful...IF you are getting the right brand with the cracked cell wall. I have been taking it for a long time. It is a good source of B's and iron and B12 as well. It is a great blood purifier. No problem with thyroid patients.
There are some whole food source vitamins without iodine, but a little iodine (whole food source) shouldn't be a problem for us thyroid patients anyway. As long as it isn't in enormous amounts. :)
Believe it or not, testing for deficiencies for vitamins for a lot of the vitamins, has its pro's and cons.....except for major ones like B12, Iron, Vit D.
A blood test will not show deficiency at the cellular level.....which most of us have. So what makes sense is to bulk up on nutrients for us, because our ability to absorb is already affected by our thyroid issues.

Laura, thanks for your comment, you know, some said that we should have them tested to find the specific deficiency before supplementation, but in that case we should have a whole blood tests for elements, which can not be done in a regular test in hospital.

And you are right, the whole food-formed of multi is better, but most of them contain iodine, which I am not sure about ....What do you think?

Another "superfood" is chlorella. Is it safe for hypos?

This actually looks like a very weak supplement.....I would look at other brands.
The best type of vitamin is food source made from whole foods, not the synthetic. Your body will absorb a lot better too! Go to the healthfood store and look at some of the liquid whole food source supplements.
We as thyroid patients don't absorb like we should, so we need to take more than the average person.
