Muscle Spasms

I am having lots of muscle spasms all over my body and am worried that I have ALS or some other type of deadly disease.  An MRI scan came back normal, no lesions or signs of tumor or MS.  Standard blood work came back normal.  I have had some perimenopausal symptoms for a while and a blood test showed low testosterone levels.  Don't know what that means but my doctor was not concerned.  The most alarming thing now are these muscle spasms.  I was taking lorazepam for anxiety for around 10 months, a very low dosage maybe two or three times a week to help me sleep, and I went off them a couple of months ago because I found out they can be addictive.  I read muscle spasms were a side effect and a withdrawal symptom of this type of medication, but I expected to be completely beyond any further problems two months later!

Does anyone have any suggestions or comments?

Hi there and welcome!!!  The best best thing I have found for muscle spasms and cramping is magnesium. My dr told me to go to the Vitamin Shoppe and get a product called Calm....it is powder form of magnesium that tastes great and works fabulous. I mix mine in hot water at night and it helps me to relax and sleep well. I even have my daughter taking it now! lol
I got it in lemon raspberry flavor....they have other flavors. I found them online until I realized we have one here in town.
A lot of medications actually deplete our magnesium levels anyway along with other things.  Approx 68% of people are very magnesium deficient.
Hope this helps! :)

I had horrible muscle spasms prior to starting thyroid medicine. That is one aspect of this disease that has fortunately has stopped.
