Normal Weight Elevated Fasting Blood Sugars

Hello, I am 40 yo male, 5 foot 6 147 pounds.  I work out, am in good shape, my trig/hdl ratio is around 1.  I do not appear to have any symptoms of insulin resistance other than elevated fasting BS's.  I do have a family history of type 2 diabetes but neither my parents or brother have it.

My question, my FBS has been high normal for awhile now, but most recent lab work came back as 112.  I have been taking them at home since this reading and they have been between 102-113 every morning.  With normal Trigs, normal blood pressure, normal weight in a person who exercises, does this make sense?  If I am pre diabetic, I don't even know what course to take to prevent it from going into diabetes.  Any help would be appreciated.

There are a few ways to reverse diabetes...

Dr Mark Hyman: New Research Finds Diabetes Can Be Reversed...

"The study, entitled Reversal of type 2 diabetes: normalization of beta cell function in association with decrease pancreas and liver triglycerides, was exquisitely done. The bottom line: A dramatic diet change (protein shake, low glycemic load, plant-based low-calorie diet but no exercise) in diabetics reversed most features of diabetes within one week and all features by eight weeks. That’s right, diabetes was reversed in one week. That’s more powerful than any drug known to modern science."

Diet Doctor: Hello LCHF – Goodbye Type 2 Diabetes:

"Two weeks ago, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, after having had morning blood sugar levels around 300 mg/dl (17 mmol/l), as self-monitored at home. Changed my diet to LCHF and my blood sugar levels are now consistently below 125 mg/dl (7 mmol/l), and most often at 90-105 mg/dl (5-6 mmol/l). I want to let you know that your website has given me proper information that I would have missed otherwise…"

Daily Mail UK: I reversed my diabetes in just 11 days - by going on a starvation diet...

"Scientists at Newcastle University had devised a radical low-calorie diet that studies suggested could reverse diabetes in under eight weeks.

This involved eating just 800 calories a day (a man’s recommended intake is 2,500) — 600 calories from meal replacement shakes and soups and 200 calories from green vegetables. You also drink three litres of water a day."

My Healthy Living Coach: Raw food diet may reverse or eliminate Diabetes...

"There is evidence that eating raw can reverse diabetes. The 2008 documentary film, Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days tracked the accomplishments of six Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics as they made the transition from a standard to raw diet.

All of the participants showed improvement. Their blood sugar levels dropped and their energy levels improved. Insulin became unnecessary and at the end of the program, test results showed non-diabetic results. These results surprised even the most avid supporters of non-medicinal diabetes management and the raw food diet because most believed reversing Type 1 diabetes to be impossible."

Since we are a thyroid community, I would normally tell you to check out the pre-diabetes forum, which I will do anyway, but I might also be able to offer to some insight, since I too, have pre-diabetes.

The easiest way to address pre-diabetes (insulin resistance) is eat low glycemic foods, that won't raise your blood sugar, such as vegetables, lean meats, low fat dairy, etc.  Avoid things like white bread, sugary drinks and other high calorie foods (candies, pastries, etc).  Avoid white rice, bread and pasta; which to whole grains instead.  When I say "avoid" I don't mean you have to completely cut them out, but do severely limit their intake and when you do eat them, make sure you pair them with plenty of veggies, that will help slow their digestion and prevent them from spiking the blood sugar.

Every time you eat something that spikes the blood sugar, your pancreas pumps out insulin and eventually your cells become resistant to it.

google "low glycemic diet" and you'll find tons of information.
