Now what?

Dr Said my Free T4 was "normal 0.8 - 1.7" mine was  0.9  My TSH 3.51 then 2.66 week later. Thyroglobulin 11.5 Thyroglobulin AB <20.  Triiodothyronine - true,ser/plas,qn  136. "normal 50 - 170" She said I don't have Hashimotos and don't have thyroid problem and to go see dermatologist for my hair loss, which is still happening. The texture of my hair has changed. Its dry and brittle? Still ache and feel tired. Family members that have thyroid problems all say how I feel screams thyroid, Dr says no. Maybe I need to be on antidepressants. I said I don't feel depressed, but that could change shortly if something doesn't change.Feel very frustrated and don't know what to do now? Do I just go buy vitamins recommended for thyroid issues and hope it helps?

Your doctor said no Hashimoto's, but you only listed one of the two tests used to diagnose Hashi's.  The other is TPO ab.  Has that test been done also?

Your Free T4 is too low, and you really don't have any info on the most important thyroid test, which is Free T3.  You only have total T3, which is somewhat outdated and not nearly as revealing as Free T3.  Free T3 largely regulates metabolism and many other body functions.  Scientific studies have shown that FreeT3 correlated best with hypo symptoms, like some of those you are having, while Free T4 and TSH did not correlate at all.

So I suggest that you should ask to be tested for Free T3 and Free T4.  If the doctor resists, then you should insist on it and don't take no for an answer.  In addition, there is information suggesting that the best measure of tissue thyorid levels is the ratio of Free T3 to Reverse T3.  So also request to be tested for Reverse T3.

Further, since many patients are low in other important areas that can cause some of those symptoms, I suggest that you test for Vitamin D, b12 and ferritin.

When test results are available, please post results and their reference ranges and members will be glad to help interpret and advise further..

Have a look at this link and you'll notice those are among the many symptoms that can be related to hypothyroidism.

You scream HYPO....

Can you get your PCP to humor you and do a trial of thyroid medication to see if it helps your symptoms?
