Partial Thyroidectomy

I've posted before, about my long range difficulties with levels, nodules and drs. getting me to a balance with t3 and t4.
8 years later, I am on a combination which helped bring me from 200 lbs to 135 lbs and to see a surgeon to remove the thyroid.

I was on 88 mcg of Synthroid/20 mcg Cytomel prior to the surgery to remove my thyroid.

Below are the labs, which were off.  Due to difficulties, the surgeon only removed the right Thyroid gland only.
The current discussion is a 2nd surgery, to remove the left.  The reason he gave was the 2 1/2 hours of adhesion, and other complication, and the caution not to damage vocal chords.  I researched this surgeon, and he seems credible, but I wasn't thrilled to learn this is not over for me yet.

I have labs next week, but here is what the labs were going in.

Tsh:  0.0008    L    [ Range:  0.350-4,500]
T3:  3.5                 [Range:   2.3-4.2 pg/ml]
T4:  1.1                 [Range:   0.8-1.8]
TPO   128  H         [Range:   <35 IU/ml]    I have Hashimotos

DHEA Sulfate 26 ug/dl               [Range:  35-430
Cortisol:      21.8 ug/dl                [Range: 4.3-22.4
Testosterone: <10.00 ng/dl   L    [Range:  10-70    First time hormones were checked, since 1997 hysterectomy.

I didn't expect a second surgery, and I am not thrilled, however, it was agreed, that not having any thyroid would make labs easier to regulate, and negate the potential for additional growth.
My question?
Is it normal to go in several times?  And, what needs to happen medication-wise?

Thanks in advance to any response.

I had a five hour surgery to remove my entire thyroid. Surgeon did say that it took longer than he anticipated...I did have a huge toxic goiter as well.

But all went well. I did not have any organs or cords damaged. But he was a great surgeon and the healing went well you don't even see the scar. ..
