Please HELP! Extremely High TSH!!! I am a 25yr Male Athlete

I have had one lobe since I was 11...It recently caused me to be very Hyperthyroid. I play sports so weight is an issue. I went from 265-230lbs in 2 months while still lifting and eating for bulk. Finally I started having instances of Rapid HR, light headed, Weak, shortness of breath, and one time it got real bad and I passed out and this time had a temp of 101.2. Rushed to Hospital. Had a thyroid storm.! Used RAI to kill other half of thyroid left. Its now gone and I haev a TSH of 118. I feel AWFUL! My endo doesn't monitor me closely at all, but I don't know where else to go. Pittsburgh is the closest large city to me. He has started me on 150mcg of levethyroxin. No better at all and its almost 3 weeks now. I have a client that has no thyroid either. she is 40yrs old and 5'1'' and is on 240mcg of levo. and is doing well. I am 6'5'' and 250lb now. I am on 150mcg..?? I don't get it. They told me they may take me to 300 or 400, but y am I at such a low dose now...I feel so bad...and as an athlete I rely on my energy and strength. which now...I have none!! Any info would be greatly appriciated! PLEASE!!! HELP This is so frustrating!

Red and Deb pretty well said it all - everyone is different and it's best to go up slowly.  My doctor actually only started me out at 25 mcg, then each week raised it by 25 to let it build gradually.  It does take time for the med to start working.

Good luck and hang in there - it will take time.

Thyroid issues require a lot of patience which unfortunately not many of us have.
Getting the med doses right is a long tedious road but you do get there.
This is just something you cannot rush.
If you do rush increases in meds, you may becaome drug induced Hyper and I wouldnt wish that on anyone.
You need to give your body time to adjust to the meds as Redhead said.

Everyone is different in regards to dosage as we all have different metabolism's.

Hi there. I know how frustrating it can be to trust the doctors and still feel lousy.
The usual start dose is 100mcgs for anyone. He may have put you on 150 due to your body size. It takes a little longer than 3 weeks for your body to adjust to the dose. Unfortunatley, as it has a half life of a week, meaning you take a weeks dose then next week it is only just starting to work It takes up to 6 weeks to get any noticeable effect.
Don't put too much emphasis on what others take. There are many variables to each person's thyroid condition.
If you can hang out a couple more weeks and still find you feel proverbially rotten, go up a dose of 50mcgs. You really DO NOT want to jump up to 300mcgs in one hit. You may well become hyper again. It IS going to take time and sadly no magic pill is available to make us feel better quickly.
I am very active and find when I am too low a dose I feel miserable that I can't go out and enjoy my exercise. So I know what you are going through.
I know it is hard, but try to keep going. Do all you can to keep your nutrients up, take vitamins with selenium in it, it can help process the thyroid mediation and help you feel better.
