I couldn't bring myself to cook much (other than 6oz of organic chicken breast or ground beef each day) so I followed these directions:
http://www.thyca.org/rai.htm
Call the nuclear medicine department with a list of ALL of your meds (Rx and OTC) and let them figure out what you can, or cannot take. You can't have calcium pills, BTW.
Avoid frozen or canned fruits and veggies - they contain salt. I used the heck out of my steamer and found that a spritz or two of "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" spray worked well. Oh, other than that I practically lived on apples and unsalted almonds.
The thyrogen, for some reason, is not to be used on your first RAI. If I need a 2nd RAI then I will be able to use the shot
I thought you don't have to go hypo anymore and as you get the thyrogen jab.. Is thyrogen not available in your area?
I had 150m of RAI last week for Thca. My endo does not believe in the "diet" so I did not do it. I can say that the hypo was not that bad until the day of the RAI. I got very sick (which I understand is unusual) the day after the RAI and stayed that way for 5 days.
Good luck as I can't imagine dealing with the diet (I did for 2 days the week before just to see if I could) and all the other side effects of Hypo.
Best wishes
Hello
I only ate fresh veggies, fresh fruit, oatmeal, almonds, and 6oz of organic chicken every day for 4 weeks. I made my own bread!! I was very strict with the diet!! I did have 2 meals that contained organic hamburger!! It was not fun, but I survived! I did not have any dairy products, butter or any store bought bread. I did use frozen veggies because I was afraid that they may contain salt.
Good Luck
Joni
I think they say fresh meat because frozen chicken contains soduim solution.
I'm not sure about the store bread, I don't eat bread. You could find a friend or relative with a bread machine to make some for you. That would be safe.
