In Canada everything is covered by the government. After surgery you can opt for a private room if you have insurance for that.
After I thought about it more - I also strongly believe it is an insurance issue too. I think it is very rare an insurance company will pay for a hospitol stay on this type of procedure, so if you prefer, you may want your doctor or yourself check out that payment option before opting to stay - or be prepared of a costly bill you may be responsible for.
It does differ by hospital and, possibly, state. Here in Utah they don't hospitalize but I believe that states like California do.
I was released home after my 100mCi dose - as stella said, just follow the protocols given to you by the hospital CAREFULLY!
My sister went through three doses (the highest somewhere in the 200mCi range - have to check with her for sure) and was released home each time but opted to stay at a hotel because of the size of her home and having to share it with multiple pets (including her husband) :-)
I think they consider distance from hospital, Number of bathrooms in the home, whether or not there are children in the home. They base their decision on some or all of these. If you can be isolated at home they will let you go.
No.
Any research I have seen and after going through it myself at a larger dose You can be released after the RAI is done - but you must isolate yourself and follow the instructions the clinic or hosiptol gives you .
