REACTION TO DYES IN SYNTHROID

Hi,

Could anyone give me any insight into the types of reaction one might have to dyes in Synthroid?  I was put on Synthroid mid-March aftrer being on Armour for many years (had reaction to Armour - that was reason for change).  I started with .50 mcg to .75 (for three weeks) and now at .88  (blue pill).  I never felt good since going on Synthroid at all, although I already was feeling pretty bad and I am basically housebound.  Waiting for labs this week and doctors appointment in 10 days.  I am probably not stabilized with this dose and have weird side effects which I don't know if they are from not being stabilized or dyes or fillers or both.  This includes basically feeling terrible all the time, exhausted, lightheaded, etc. and also burning in stomach and abdomen area at times and feeling like I am getting a UTI, but I am sure I am not.  Feel flu-like, "off" feeling.  Just wondered if anyone had any insight into these feelings and those who might have had reaction to dyes/versus not being stabilized.  I plan to talk to my doctor, but just wanted to see what others may have experienced.

Thanks,
Liz

im allergic to pretty much all colours. i had to change to levoxyl 50mcg tablets because they have no colour or lactose. i feel like im getting a UTI if i eat lactose (or any dairy at all, plus some other foods - so if it is allergy it could be from anything, to find out i cut things out of my diet and see if the symptoms go away then try them again). i didnt get any of your other side effects though. but i did get really constipated from yellow colouring, and i got a rash. but like AR said, it is difficult to tell what is from not being stabilised, or allergies, or something else!

I agree the dye in the synthroid is causing those rash. Right now I am taking the 100mcg synthroid and I'm breaking out with hives everyday all over my body. Thanks to a former dr I called and he told me to have dr change the 100mcg to the 50mcg because it has no dye which is causing a allergic reaction.

You've been on three different doses (and colors), and you are probably moving on to another.

You might have a problem with one of the dyes, but I doubt you are having trouble with every color. The fillers in the drug may be giving you problems.

Being Hypo makes you feel bad, so it is a little hard to say until you are stable again and give yourself a few months to get used to the meds whether you would be better off trying another brand.

Some people don't handle the fillers in Synthroid well, and do better with another brand like Levoxyl. It's too early in the process to say for sure.

I really have no experience with dye allergies and I don't know the difference between Hypo symptoms and an intolerance to the Synthroid I am taking. I'm not balanced yet.

Just thought I would comment and push this up the page so someone who has experienced those issues may see it.
