Scalp issues

Has anyone ever had intense itching and flaking of the scalp when TSH levels are high?     Does this usually go away once TSH is brought down?  Thank you.

Yes, it can! I am hypo and have had dry, itchy scalp for 7 years now, starting the first week I took Levoxyl. My levels always read within range, and I have been to general practitioners, two nurse-practitioners, an endocrinologist, and two dermatologists. I have used every medication they've prescribed, including all the different OTC and prescription shampoos! I have changed types of medication (including Armour), too. No relief.

I seriously have learned so much already. I have had mild eczema since i was a little kid and it always produces right around my nose. As of lately I have been diagnoses with hyperthyroidism.. I thought I needed to change shampoos or something because all of a sudden I am having to brush my scalp..literally every night to get the massive amount of scaling and build up off. This I was attributing to the eczema getting worse possibly or my shampoo. Nope. Im quite sure this makes a lot more sense. Just crazy. all of it.

Wow, I've thought I was nuts about the horrible dry skin around the eyebrow and on the outter ear rims and scalp.

I have to assume this can occur with hypo and not just hyper, right?

Yes I get this real bad...also Hairloss comes with it for me.
It starts with Flaking, then my scalp turns scabby & uncomfortable.
It is what I get when Hyperthyroid...its on of the symptoms that tells me
I am hyper again.

I tries all sorts of Lotions/Potions Shampoos etc. The one that worked for me
& made a difference fast was T-GEL Coal Tar Shampoo.

At the same time I get some patches of eczema near my eyebrow &
near my inner eye/nose area I use Eumobase for that.

I am in UK so products may be different where you are.

Once your hyroid levels are normal, it will go away as quick as
it came.

Its not nice but try not to let it get you down & it will go in time.

yeah, I didn't know it was from high tsh til a couple months ago. Yes, it does go away. I used selsun blue to relieve the itching. It really helped. Head and Shoulders didn't do anything. Now if I could only find out what to do about the acne.
