Several Large Nodules in Thyroid

I just recently had an ultrasound done on my thyroid and they found several nodules on both sides. The sizes are as follows:

ISTHMUS: 0.35 cm
Rt Thyroid L: 6.05 cm
Rt Thyroid H: 1.68 cm
Rt Thyroid M: 1.91 cm
Rt Thyroid Vol: 9.33 ml
Lt Thyroid L: 5.26 cm
Lt Thyroid H: 1.66
Lt Thyroid M: 1.75
Lt Thyroid Vol: 7.34 ml

I don't really know what any of that means, aside from the fact that I have quite a few large nodules in my thyroid, and many more than was originally suspected. Does anyone have any thoughts or places I could research to see what this all means? I am in the process of setting an appointment with an endocrinologist, but I was hoping to have a little more information on what the results of the ultrasound were, especially the parts that speak of volume. I had blood tests done about a month ago that showed my TSH levels at 5.11. I had more blood tests done about a week ago, but I don't have the results on those yet. They were pretty detailed. Any suggestions or information you can give will help me out a lot. Thank you.

Well, the way they are presenting this data,[3 dimensoins and volume] it is the way the size of thyroid lobes are measured; the nodules are written using 2 dimensions only
The circular bright spots on the sreen is the image of blood vessel; benign nodules look similar to solar eclipse or ring of fire around the dark spot; the suspicious nodules are showing up like cellar cluster [please forgive my Astronomy terms]

Actually, they are the thyroid nodules. I saw the ultrasound pictures along with the report (I have a copy of it to take the the endo) and they are each measured on the screen. I can see my thyroid around the nodules. Some are light in color and some are really dark, but I don't know what that means per se. I'm not self-diagnosing myself, nor am I scared about what's next. I just wanted to get as much information as I could so I was informed when I saw the endo. Thanks!

The data on the report are dimensions of thyroid gland [lobes] ;NOT the sizes of nodules; the thyroid volume is 16.64 cubic cm, that is larger then average  but less then upper normal limit 18 cu cm for females.

Hiya Crystal --- Welcome --am v new (4 wks) to the Nodule Game myself so can't comment informatively as some on the site (many will know what ur levels mean).  I had ultrasound FNA (fine needle biopsy) as my next step.  It wasn't as painful as it sounds, and the Game is all about collecting and interpretating data. It is easy to say - stay calm - it is a very scary time until you've all the info and a good treatment plan agreed, but seeing a trusted endo is key. The last few weeks I have spent trawling this site ---some tough stories out there, but the most important thing to remember ---all is treatable!!  This was the 1st thing endo number 2 said to me when I walked into the room before even sitting down! (I hated no 1 so don't be afraid to shop around either, even at this early stage, as 2nd opinions can have a role in the process too). I hope you find it a helpful place.  : )  x
