Synthroid Dosage

I had my thyroid removed on october 24th and have been on synthroid 75 mcg since.  i have been having cramps in my calves like charlie horse pain for the past week . Does this mean that i may need a higher dose of synthroid. I just went and had my first lab work done since my surgery this past week.  I have noticed that I have gained some weight since the surgery.

I had the exact same problem of severe toe/foot/lower leg cramps that sometimes scared me. These started a couple of years after I started Synthroid. (The Synthroid saved me.) But my doctor should have told me what two of my friends told me who take Sythroid--that I needed to take Magnesium. Within a week or two the cramps were all gone, and my fatigue level was better. I'm SO THANKFUL! (I always take the Mag. 12 hours after the Synthroid) My friend's doctor had explained something about the byproducts of the Sythroid in your body can interfere with the Magnesium absorption, so he had her start with supplements. Such important information--why didn't my endocrinologist tell me?!?!

I had the same leg cramps and found it was parathyroid damage and I now have to supplement Calcium and Vit D.  Unfortunately I have struggled with hypo symptoms as well and couldn't find a doctor to try anything besides upping the Synthroid.  I am on my 5th doctor after 18 months since surgery - I believe I have found the right one this time.  They believe in getting your levels to optimal not just within normal range.  Best of luck to you, be patient and don't give up.

Please post the results and reference ranges of the tests drawn last week.

Cramps can be a symptom of both hypo and hyper.  Have you asked your doctor about suppplementing magnesium and/or potassium?

Besides weight gain, do you have other hypo symptoms?
