Synthroid Dosage

Has anyone heard that the dosage is based on your weight?  My numbers are perfect, according to the doctor, however, I am always tired, have reflux problems that the gastro doesn't understand why, I am constantly having hard stools, not gaining or losing weight, and getting very frustrated. I keep thinking I need my dosage raised but no one will listen to me.  Am I thinking the right way or not?  Help!  Need your advise.

PS:  You pretty much need the TSH, T3 and T4 values ... you can still get copies from your Dr.  My doc let's me tweek the dosage around and then we settle in together on the dosing .. I'm currently on 62.5mcgs.  I've always thought the baseline starting # was based on weight right after surgery and then it's tweeked along by symptoms and target TSH #'s .

The constipation can be from hypo symptoms even though your TSH they say is normal .. if your doc ups the dosage it may go away like mine.

Hey you HOW THE HECK ARE YOU and WELCOME BACK to the Thyroid Community!  So sorry I missed your post from last week.

Looks like you've gotten some great advice!  Geez, I see you have the diabetes tracker in place --- when and how did you get the diagnosis?  Sorry to see you are now battling this, too.

My Mom had awful reflux until her diabetes came under control.  Now she only takes Prilosec once in awhile.

I know a few other people on the community with diabetes and needing synthroid -- let me know if you want me to connect you?

Given your symptoms, if your free T3 is low in its range, then yes.  But let's have a look at your test results and ranges and discuss further.

Thanks.  My doctor never gives me the numbers but I am up for another reading so I will let you know. So if the numbers are low and my weight is up would you think I should be raised?

The effect of a give dosage of thyroid meds. would be affected by your weight; however, the best approach is to use free T3 ( the most important blood test for thyroid) along with symptoms, to determine the proper dosage.  It would be most helpful if you would please post the actual numbers from your blood tests, along with ranges.
