Synthroid dosing ? inside .. What do you all think ...

I have been doing the 100mcgs on Thurs and Sunday with 88mcgs inbetween BUT this is the second time, now, taking the 100mcg I have had insomnia on the 2nd dose day which is Sun. (it is closer together than the 1st day of the week .. doing 100 on Thurs/Sun).  Also, on the Thurs I had some anxiety {{{{{{{{{again}}}}}}}}}} that was definitely from the 100 as I dont' get it with the 88 at all .. this happened while at a kid movie watching Underdog LOL ???????????  Anxiety tremors but not related to the movie .. just kind of the shakes and couldn't shake it out of me .. then went away.

I am opting @ trying the 88/100 regime but breaking it out over 10 days vs. 7 ...... In other words taking the 100 ev 5 days instead of the 88 and if that fails maybe doing 100 just one time a week.

At this point the combo is basically up to me and how I feel but with 88 all week long my TSH was 1.3 and they want it below 1.0 for cancer supression if possible.

What do you think would work best ...... whatever I can do to get a 100 in there can only help unless I get anxiety symptoms.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr  Sorry so technical here,

Bluk @ Aunt Flo-  the zits are appearing on my chin today- at least my neck has some relief this month!!!!!! It's been 2 1/2 weeks since her last visit and dog gone she's arriving early again this time too!!!

Yep- I know that old ENOUGH is ENOUGH- that's how i am feeling too and i agree with you about feeling down. I wonder some days how can I keep going like this. Sick & tired of feeling this way. There are too many days when i'd rather just give this world up instead of being like this- and those are the times when my sons seem to need me- i guess it's god's way of saying "you're not done yet hang on".

It's also been 2 1/2 weeks since reducing levoxyl & i feel sluggish and tired- UGHHHHHHHHHH  !!!!!

I'd like to be a kid again if i can take the "some" of the knowledge i have now with me?!!!

I get bouts of "enough is enough" and feeling CHEATED .. that is the way I feel .. I guess that good 'ol anger starts in yet again after I thought it was all processed.  Yeah, I agree .. you'd think after all these mos the entire board would be fixed on their meds LOL!!!!!!

Yeah, wanna be a kid again ..................................my oldest (almost 17) was fearful of some classes and changes at high school this year .. really stuck in neutral from FEAR so I blam blasted her and told her that if I let the FEAR TAKE CONTROL of my thyroid and my skin cancer then it will win w/o a doubt  ....... I really laced into her that it is ok to be in neutral for a few days but then kick it lose and get rid of the fear to move ahead.  She is a kid ... only 17 .... shouldn't have to hear an anology from her 48yr old ma like that BUT IT WORKED!~!!!!  She moved forward and listened to my wisdom (first and only time I think LOL)

I find the more hypo I am the more bouts of feeling down I feel before my Aunt Flo ....... ??

I am so glad that others are having med adjustment issues after tt as well. so its not just me after all...I am tweeking the **** out of this synthroid too ...I did 100 then cut it in half when I got too hyper...then noticed I was to hypo again...it is a rotten see-saw effect. Just when I think I have my dose right I slowly relize I am hypo again...I hate this I just wanna be a kid again and feel good. Is any body feeling depressed on sythroid??? I am never depressed but lately I am so down I feel like giving up on it all and I know its just not me... anyway I am sick of this drug balancing act how bout you?

That blood may be from kidney stones moving around .. you are the stoney one like me, right?  Also another one or two on-board are stone formers!  YEAH on the cholesterol Boo on the GERD.

My blood in urine is gone now that my 4mm stone is gone ... amazing what a little thing like that can do to one isn't it?

I am extremely med sensitive, too ... that is why I am amazed I am on the 88 without a problem.  If you give me a Percoset I generally only take 1/4 to 1/2 the dose!!!! Same goes true with mostly all decongestants, etc., etc.

My body is hypersensitive to meds--always has been. One half Tylenol PM knocks me out cold when the dx say take 2 whole! Or maybe we didn't give it long enough on 75 mcg to see if it kept going down. My cholesterol dropped on 75 mcg from 289 to 177!!

I have 2 other issues going on: Gerd and blood in my urine, so it's hard to know who came first, the chicken or the egg. The thyroid may be causing the Gerd, and if I'm heading into menopause, that might explain the blood. Or they could be completely separate issues that are taxing my thyroid. All I know is I want to get all this testing done by the end of the year while I've got my deductible met!!!

I can't believe I didn't even make it to 50 before falling apart...         :-(

The 100 ev. 3-4 days is still too much for me (anxiety) so my textbook is telling me to go every 7 days on the 88mcgs and then throw in a 100 for which I will try on Sunday since I bypassed the 100 this past thursday.

Yes, isn't it such a struggle ?!  WOW you really went from hypo to hyper with a small change in dosing!!!

How are you doing on your alternating dosages? I think I'm going to try a page out of your book. I don't have ThyCa, at least I haven't been diagnosed yet--am supposed to be scheduling an ultrasound if the hospital would ever call me... But anyway, 75 mcg only brought my TSH down to 4.75 which was still a little high, but 88 mcg has brought it down to .57, and I still don't feel very well. I think I'm a little hyper because although I don't have diarrhea, I'm going 2-3 times a day, whereas when hypo, I was somewhat constipated. So I think I will go back to 75 mcg for a couple of days, then do an 88 mcg for a day.

What a juggling act! Let me know how your plan works out. -- Michelle

It "could be" menopause but you won't know unless you try cutting down or modifying the dose .... perhaps this go-around the #'s won't dramatically rise and maybe ask to do so with the full understanding it is a "trial and error" and you want TSH drawn sooner vs. later ??  Good idea to modiry 150/125 if Doc agrees .. I am ALL FOR IT .... we shouldn't have to endure side effects if not necessary.

Sometimes things really don't level out 100% until a long time after the surgery & can continue to change ... in my case the switch from 88 to 100 actually showed worse #'s when they should have been more hyper --- this owuld be clinically speaking but it wasn't like that -- !!!

I know how you feel.  I'm on 150 mcgs and have been having insomia for abut 4+ months now.  I don't know what to blame the thyroid meds or menopause.  All I know is even Lunesta isn't working like it should be.  Either I can't sleep or I do nothing but sleep, especially if I've had an unusually hectic day.  Like last Saturday, I spend about 7hours cleaning house, then when grocery shopping for a few hows. Sunday I tried to clean my bathroom but only got the shower cleaned.  I layed down on my couch and physical couldn't make myself move.  I was light-headed and dizzy also.  I did't have to take a Lunesta that night.  Thankfully, when I woke up Monday I felt much better.  I did take my blood pressure Sunday night and it was high.  I go for blood test next week.  I would like to ask the endo to lower it atleast to 125 but I doubt if she will, because of how high my TSH was the short time I was on 125 a few months back.  Frustating balancing cancer suppression to quality of life.  I use to get to work to problem by 7:00, now I'm doing good to get in by 9:00 and am more tired.  I'm also worried about the effects such a high level of levothyroxine will do to my heart long term.  Heart problems run in my family.  I've had several family members die from congestive heart failure.  Maybe I might suggest doing 125 for a few days a week.  Maybe that could help me feel better.  BTW, I've tried cutting down on the caffeine and that didn't help at all.

I thought the same thing so they did run a TSH to be certain my levels weren't undetectable but believe it or not I got more HYPO than HYPER on the higher dose of meds (just a tad but wasn't undetectable as they thought maybe with the symtpoms) !!!  So that puts that to rest about the other side "kicking in" LOL .. it's dead :::::: at least for now::::::

            100mcgs     TSH:   0.776
             88 mcgs     TSH    0.699
             75 mcgs     TSH    1.30

Odd that the 100 and 88 were almost the same and I was on the 100 for a solid 8+ weeks when it started to present with anxiety!

Do you tink it's a chance that your other half has decided to function again?

Who knows maybe it was because of ole flo!  She's mixed up with everything now a days- the women at work keep telling me I'll begin my change early with all this thyroid stuff- jeepers just another thing to looik forward too !!!

I only have caffeine for the most part with the AM coffee ..... so nothing different in the caffeine routine at all on the 100mcgs days.  ??? Could have been bcz of anxiety PMS with Aunt Flo ????? that would be the only thing different and if that is the case it won't work out.

I am absolutely feeling GREAT on the 88mcgs so will throw in the 100 ev. 7 days and see what happens ..... I had some hot flashes again with the 100mcgs closer together, too, and they have not reappeared on the other days taking 88mcgs.

If my TSH is 1.3 on straight 88mcgs maybe it will go down a bit to 1.0 throwing in that 100 once a week  ... whatever the # ends up being it will be close enough for me for that Cancer supression is something we are trying to attain along with quality of life.

This really is a pain in the neck .. you know that ?? LOL ... UGH and Grrrrrrrrrrrrr but I'm feeling fine on the straight 88 (took last 100mcgs last Thurs) and won't take the 100 again until Thursday (7 days later).

I'll let you know what happens!

On the days you do the 100 are you having extra caffeine? Maybe those would be the days to watch the caffeine & sugar intake.

If youre not excessing in those then try doing 100 once a week. You know your body and it's sensitivities. I think in an old post someone mentioned synthroid buidling up in the body & maybe you have enough built up to tolorate the 88 now?
Who knows- it seems to be a guessing game with all our hormones etc.

I'm just about 2 weeks into 150mcg. and am feeling soooo much better, cept ole aunt flo- she's every 3 weeks and since i'm also two weeks past her I'm cramping already- sheesh can't we catch a break anywhere?

I won't be having surgery on the other half unless something changes on that side ........ I had micrcarcinomas that were found and the orig nodules were benign .. they were "incidental findings" and those come with alot of ?'s as to having the other side out or keeping it in .. I had 4 opinions and 3 said to keep it in and one said to have it out!   Technically speaking they changed the protocol in May 06 and I fit the parameter to have the other side out but the other 3 said to wait some more time and see what happens with the protocol as it may change again and I will be the guenia pig perhaps and in the meantime I have time on my side as pap cancer grows very slowly.

I have a 3mm nodule that they follow ev. 6 mos with serial ultrasound.  6mos ago it was exactly the same and termed "stable" .. it looks the same as the 2 benign  nodules removed in Jan ..... soooooooooo ... to be honest I am 85% comfortable with my decision to keep in the other side ... I am ok with the 15%of inbetween feelings as all I need to do is say to take it out and out it comes.

B4 you came on board I had plenty of problems with scar tissue, infection, etc. and my Endo said the scar tissue can cause more serious problems than the other side left intact.

Oh wow!  That sounds dreadful.  If you weren't going for suppression because of the CA, I would probably say to just set it where you feel best and enjoy - since I don't think the numbers are the best indicator of what's best.  However, in your case it looks like you don't have that luxury.  :o(

I'm not an expert, (far from it) so I don't guess I have advice, but how long do you have to remain in suppression mode?  I mean, have they scheduled surgery?  Is it temporary or indefinite?  It would be hard to just bite the bullet if you didn't know how long it would last.  (I can usually do about anything for some limited amount of time...)

I hope you get to feeling better and that someone more knowledgeable answers soon.  I'll be following this to see how it goes.  Keep us posted!

PS:  My TSH on 100mcgs for ten weeks was 0.7 but bad anxiety/nervousness so it won't work for me @ that dosing even though it clinically is optimal for cancer supression on other side of gland.
