Synthroid to WP Thyroid

Hello,

One week ago I started seeing a new doctor for my Hashimoto's and among things like taking me off dairy (I'm already gluten free) and adding a LOT of supplements, she switched me from 50mcg of Synthroid to 32.5 of WP Thyroid. She mentioned that I would feel icky for a week or so. Well today has been a full week and I feel AWFUL. Sluggish and lethargic, dry skin, brain fog, my whole body is sore and achy and my right pinky keeps tingling. I left her a message that I felt this way and she left me a message saying I can switch back to the Synthroid if I wanted to.
What to do? I really wanted to try and switch because I honestly did not feel that great on Synthroid (better then this though) and I am hearing GREAT stuff about the Natural Thyroid.
Anyone have any experience with this?

    Inulin (from chicory root)
    Medium Chain Triglycerides (from coconut)

dx hypo in 2005, Now taking ¾ grain Total of  RLC Labs. Nature-Throid in divided doses ½ grain early am, ¼ grain 6 hrs.
I have been on thyroid medication (mostly Armour and Nature-Throid dessicated thyroid) as well as Synthroid when Armour was out of stock and two compounded experiments and WP Thyroid.

I took WP thyroid for a year from Oct 7, 2013 to Oct 30st, 2014.
I suffered with GI pain from Dec 2013 until November of 2014 and I switched back to Nature-Throid to see if the WP was a factor with my pain. Thought pain was an ulcer at first and did a protocol for that for about 3 months with no relief.  Over the course of the year I did 20+ things to heal. I think the best helps were prayer and claiming promises from the Bible The Word of God, dental work on #13 and # 31, unblocked sinuses, adjustment to ileocecal valve and getting Oxitocin from neighbor dogs (our little Iggy passed away in Jan of 2014). I was seeking to take IV of Oxitocin (suggested in an article by Dr. Jonathan V. Wright for my undiagnosed pain when I saw a 60 min segment on a smart dog that they shared about dogs and humans getting and giving Oxitocin from each other.   Switching back from WP Thyroid to Nature-Throid may have been a big factor, just not sure. But my pain that began slowly went off like a light switch and I thanked God.

If the WP Thyroid did not agree with me. I might have been a Histamine or FODMAP reaction to the fillers. I do have several food sensitivities, gluten, nightshades, caffeine, MSG etc and supplement and drug fillers. Ate SAD heaving on sugar most of my life and later began veggie juicing and went vegetarian, then vegan and then Paleo as I've cleaned up my diet. I discovered that Paleo is high in Histamine and FODMAPS. Anyway I did 23andMe gene testing to see what that would reveal and I do have a double mutation in DAO (di-amino oxidase) the enzyme involved in the degradation of histamine. Also discover my mostly English ancestry.

I've learned a lot over the past 6 years. I think my thyroid got blown out primarily by pool chemicals, chlorine, bromide and  fluoride in the water (these elements disrupt iodine in ones system).  And my poor diet, inactive, stressful workaholic lifestyle did not help. I've tested negative to Hashimoto's twice and am considering upping my selenium by  eating 1 large or -2 small  Brazil nuts  a day and later adding food sources of iodine and also taking zinc. I have one alternative endo who thinks I can taper off Thyroid meds and I think I can too. Only want to work on my Gut and Brain health, strengthen my immune system,  prep to support thyroid, get my body temp up and balance nutrients and amino acids before trying to taper.

I've run off the road to many times and I've learned it is the basics that matter the most. Simple easy healthy things... things that we all tend neglect.

Bottom line for me, WP Thyroid was not  a good choice. I am now considering Erfa or compounded dessicated thyroid with probiotic acidophilus or ginger as fillers.

I may copy this post in some other threads to share and learn more.

I expect that the basic problem is that the conversion from 50 mcg of T4 med to WP Thyroid varies, dependent on the source.  Some say that 1/2 grain of NDT types of thyroid med like WP Thyroid is equal to 100 mcg of T4 med.  Other sources say it is only equal to 75 mcg of T4.  My experience would be the latter, which would dictate 2/3 of a grain of the NDT med.

So your switch leaves you at a lower equivalent dose, and you are starting to feel the effects.  Since your doctor is one of the minority that is willing to prescribe NDT type med, I expect that he would be receptive to you asking for an increase, especially since you seemed to too low in the first place with the 50 mcg of T4 only, and were suffering symptoms with that.

If the doctor agrees, you could split one of the 1/2 grain tablets in half and take an extra 1/4 tab, for a total of 49 mg daily.  Then if that does not relieve symptoms, you could request to continue to increase until symptoms are relieved.  Many of us say that symptom relief required Free T3 in the upper part of its range, and Free T4 at the middle of its range.  Also, it would be good to assure that your Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin are at optimal levels.
