Synthroid

I'm wondering if anyone knows if having a cup of coffee or milk 1 hour after having my synthroid pill can affect the medication. My endo told me to make sure not to take any vitamins with iron or calcium for at least 4 hours after I take the pill. I definitely do not take my vitamins until a good 6 hours after synthroid but given that milk has calcium, i'm wondering if having milk can also affect the pill. My dr suggested i take the synthroid at night but that just doesn't work for my schedule given you can't have eaten at least 4 hours before bed and most days i don't eat dinner until close to 8 and then go to bed around 10:30. my thyroid levels seemed to have increased in the last 6 weeks and my dr just upped my dose but if the dose is being affected by when i'm taking it etc, i need to figure out a better solution.

i do wake in the night but not the same time each night. I thought that you really should be taking the pill at the same time each day or morning etc.

I use one of those pill cases that have seven slots for days of the week.  I leave the previous one empty, put the day's dose in the next slot, that way I don't even have to turn on a light.  Works great.

If I wake up to go to the toilet in the middle of the night, I am basically still half asleep and would end up taking wrong dose lol....so I dont bother with night thing.
Good idea though if you are fully awake.

Do you get up at night to go to the bathroom?  That's when I take mine, that way, I know there will be nothing in my stomach.

I totally agree with Laura.
I've taken my thyroxin in the morning followed by a coffee from day one and doing ok.
Consistancy is the key as Laura said.

The best answer to that is consistency.....if you keep the same habits and schedule, then your meds will level out where they need to be. If you drink coffee or milk every morning, then eventually your dosage will be determined with those particulars. Does that make sense? lol
