TPO (help understanding)

Can someone please help me understand my TPO antibody level. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's thyroiditis, my TPOab went from 9 in 2013 to 14 in 2014. Is this high or low?

If your TPOab was 9 in 2013 and 14 in 2014 and the reference range is 0-34, that is NOT a positive result.  TPOab would have to be over 34 for it to indicate possible Hashi's.  In addition, we typically see TPOab in the high hundreds or even thousands on diagnosis of Hashi's.  The range is from your own lab report, correct?  Different labs have different reference ranges, so it has to come from your own report.

If your diagnosis of Hashi's was based on these TPOab results, I would certainly question the diagnosis (perhaps a second opinion).  Other things can somewhat elevate TPOab, including other autoimmune diseases.

Just to give you some perspective, my TPOab was 900+ on diagnosis, and my TGab was 3,000+ (range 0-40 on both).

What's the reference range on your TPOab?  Was your TGab tested as well?
