You can get your Reverse T3 checked as well. Mine came back high -- taking T3 supplements right now. Probably going to go on T4 as well since that test came back in the lower average range.
My temperature is normally 97.1-97.3
With a TSH of 8.65 and your low temperature, it is pretty clear that you are hypothyroid, so you need to find a good thyroid doctor and get started on some medication. You should insist that the doc check your free T3 and free T4, since they are most important for determining your dosage. Don't let the doc prescribe based on TSH alone.
Though I have not been diagnosed with thyroid problems I do believe I have reason to suspect thyroid problems. My temps are always low as well. Usually between 95.0 - 97.8. When they get low into 95.0 I am not cold either. At first I blamed menopause but, I'm over that now and I still dont feel cold. When my temp goes close to normal (98.0 +) is when I either get cold or rarely now... hot. Most of the time its feeling cold when I am at that temp (98.0) very strange. You would think it would be the other way around but, I'm not seeing it or feeling it.
I just wanted to let you know... your not alone with this problem. I will keep you in my prayers and hope that you get some relief soon.
What type of thermometer are you using? Liquid in glass? Digital? Do you actually have a mercury thermometer?
You stated lately your temperature is down. Was it higher before?
I discovered when I reluctantly purchased a digital thermometer to track my temperature that multiple readings are required to acquire an average probable temperature. Here is an example of my readings:
95.3, 96.1 ,97.2 ,97.8, 97.8, 97.8, 97.5, 98.1, 98.1, 98.2, 98.2
From these results taken consecutively I can estimate my temperature at about 98.0 after deleting the first two measurements that are obviously suspect then also deleting the 97.2 and 97.5 as possible aberrations and average the rest.
These results are consistent with other digital measuring devices I've worked with in the past. And without a calibrated thermometer to verify ordinary thermometers it is difficult to know the actual temperature.
I believe if our body temperature was actually 95.5 we would feel cold.
Yeah, so far just the TSH - it was 8.65. They ran a couple more tests after that result came back but I don't have the results on the new tests yet
Sounds like we are all in the same boat.
Low temps are so classic in hypos.
Did you say you had your thyroid levels checked _ I don't remember them if you did.
I don't feel cold very often. But then I am also menopausal, so that could explain why. I have night sweats sometimes. I have been sick with a cold for the last couple of days so I have been monitoring my temp and it got up to 98.6 once, the rest of the time it has been between 95.1 and 97.1. My daughter insisted that the thermometer was broken. I tild her the 98.6 reading meant I was running a fever, lol.
Very common in hypo situations.
Do you feel cold too? I would think so .
