Thyroid Awareness Month

January is Thyroid Awareness Month, please help spread the word! This disease is horrible and makes you turn into someone you aren't both physically and mentally (just ask my family). Thanks to my family and friends for remembering the before me and know that I am fighting everyday to overcome this! In the words of my endocrinologist, "Not your fault, you a nice lady". :-)

Id love to start something like that but all my family and my doc think Im insane already!! I think my levels are out again cause my hips are starting to hurt and Im finding typing hard to do today! Its like my fingers are gone to sleep or something! Really annoying!
Im afraid to say it to my doc cause he'll just tell me I have anxiety and prescribe me another prescription for xnax that i will yet again tear up! Have an app monday so il bite the bullet and tell him!

Wow what you have started in your community is amazing!  May I ask how you started it?  There are many times I have wished for a support group to help me deal with this.  Although this forum is WONDERFUL, it is so helpful to meet and talk personally to others who understand.  This is a very misunderstood and misdiagnosed disease and awareness is the key!

Thanks for putting this up. Starting community support groups is vital. You have no idea how many local people I found in my community that had the disease and were searching for the same answers we did when logging online.

I have "lunch and Learn" sessions at my work. FOOD - always brings in a crowd. lol - and I share many brochures on labs - symptoms and the disease itself.

Its very rewarding to have someone come to you and say "You saved my life!" - when all you did was talk to them. I hate that I have the disease - but I love helping people with it.

"The best thing to spread is "Check you neck and save your life." Breast exams are common but ask a person if they checked their neck and most look at you like your a nut!.

After years now - I have a solid medical profession I meet with here that are thyroid experts and do offer webchats and consultations. I am making this disease known in my community and the more people that push it out there - the more GLOBAL it will become.
