hello i presume you have hasimoto's as well - if they decide to remove the nodule they will remove the whole thyroid in Hashimoto's patients due to the fact that we have thyroid antibodies that constantly attack the thyroid gland and "attack and irretate it" we are at greater risk of growing nodules again in the future and no one can say how soon can be in months, years who know's but if your Dr is already doing surgery for a nodule they will automatically remove the whole thyroid. I was told that my levels will be better controled as there is no thyroid to be attacked by your thyroid antibodies.
So you will just carry on on thyroid medication - might have a higher dosage but not have all the up and down - inflamation and goiter, of the constant irretation.
Hope this helps im also 32 mom of 3 and it worries me as well but im looking forward to having a normal life with normal levels - my last 4 months has been hell - struggeling to get my levels to normal - just when we get it right it goes ou of range again and we need to constantly increase my medication All the best
well i don't know..now i fee am more into checking after couple of weeks with another doctor and have anothor ultra sound just to make sure that waiting for 3 monthes is the right decision, i don't know why the doctor said i must have a Total remove for my thyroid although i have only one nodule in my right lobe, but he told me that he can't gurantee that this won't hapen for the other lobe if he leaves it!..
the radio active scan showed a fine nodularity in the thyroid glnad as it was written in the report..maybe this could be the reason..but i don't know too about this decision, i prefered to have a small part of my thyroid in order not to take idoine all my life, am only 32 years old..
wish me luck and thanks a lot for your help..good luck for u too :)
Also going for follow up ultrasound in 3 months
hi im in a simular position as you also have a complex, cold nodule - lower left thyroid lobe - FNA also showed same as yours and that they did not find cancer cells - also have bleeding into the nodule - causing pain up my neck and collar bone area. Im on a waiting list for a TT to remove the nodule but they will be doing a complete Thyroidectomy on me because i have Hashimoto's - my antibody count is 3600 and climbing so surgeon feels better to remove the whole thyroid - as its already enlarged and more nodules will just grow in the future.
i visited my doctor today and he told me that i'll wait for more 3 monthes then i'll have another ultrasound to check the size of the nodule, he said that it might get smaller, but if it got bigger i must have a surgery and remove the thyroid gland, he told me that it's much safer than removing one lobe, he also gave me a medicine i guess thyroxin or something..he told me that it might help in reducing the nodule.!
am feeling much better but a little worried is it safe to wait for whole 3 monthes!
wish me best of luck!
Hi, i was in your situation a wile back, i just had surgery to remove my right lobe last week, as they werent sure if it was benign or cancerous, i am waithing on my pathologiest results now, its better to be safe and listen to your doctor and get it removed. just make sure you have had all your questions answered before you go ahead with surgery. plus the surgery isnt that bad at all. hope all went well at the doctors.
Thanks dear for your comment, i haven't checked with my doctor yet, i'll check with him tomorrow, but he told me that in both cases ( Just a normal tumor or cancer ) i must have surgery and remove the right lobe in case of a normal tumor or remove my thryoid in case of cancer.
anyway am really annoyed and worried, i hope i can remove it as soon as possible and go back to my life..wish me luck for tomorrow!
Looking at what they are saying it not reading they found cancer. FNA are not always the tell all though. It can be missed in the biopsy. I am not sure what else to conclude here.
Usually in your case the ask for you to have a follow up in 6 mths to a year. Is that what they said to you.
What is your doctor saying? Have you been back to go over the FNA?
