Thyroid U/S - Errors?

Hi all,

I have recently had an ultrasound that showed two small hypoechoic nodules and a very small cyst. I took a look at the image CD myself and noticed some issues with the final report, worksheet and the actual images. On the images, the left thyroid has a measurement tool highlighting the nodule. It shows 10mm x 5mm and another image showing the height of 7mm. So I would expect 10mm x 5mm x 7mm, but the final report says 8mm x 7mm x 5mm, which I don't see anywhere in the images. Also on the radiologist worksheet, she has wrote 8mm x 5mm x7mm, but on the final report, she wrote 8mm x 5mm x 7mm. This has a big difference in meaning because if the nodule is taller than wide, that is a bad sign from what I've read. Also writing 8mm vs 10mm will mean my endo will likely not biopsy it. Is this something I should bring to my Endo's attention?

I have attached the pictures of everything I was explaining to you.

Thanks.

hi, thanks for the response. I brought the CD with me, but the endo dismissed the fact that the radiologist could have made a mistake. I also noted to him that the radiologist wrote 8 x 5 x 7 and then 8 x 7 x 5, which was a mistake, so it is possible. He just told me he goes by the report only and will not call the radiologist. He said he wants to wait until it hits 1cm because 8mm will not get a good specimen. That is what bothers me...the image shows it just over 1cm!! Oh well..he wants to do another US in 6 months.

He also told me that me being a 24 year old male raised no concerns to him as nodules are common in everyone. He said he`d prefer to do an US in a couple years, but since I am concerned he will do 6 month...what the heck...2 years...that is crazy. He also feels it being solid and hypoechoic and round in shape are not worrisome. Yet every study online shows these are less likely to be benign.

Either way...what can I do! Thanks for the response.

The endo will have a report, and you should discuss your concerns with them. You can show them the CD you have, and ask the same questions.
How do you know your endo will not do a biopsy if it is 2mm smaller? Have they stated that to you already?  Nodules being taller than wider is not the issue, rather, it is what the nodule consists of that is important.
