Thyroid and heart

What is the connection between thyroid problems and heart problems from medications? I have been taking synthroid for about seven years, currently on 125mg. I have been having problems with my heart rate and beat. It goes very fast and then goes very slow. I have a lot of irregular beats and now my cardiologist wants me to do an ablation but I am convinced that something else is causing this. I have just gotten my thyroid levels checked and they are fine. So should I get my adrenal glands checked? I really know that all my symptoms are not from my heart. I feel exhausted, have horrible headaches, lightheaded, some nausea, now I am having vision problems. What could this be?

I agree that maybe it is two separate problems but I just want to make sure before I go that route.
Yes, I discussed my thyroid with my doctor and he recommended getting my adrenal glands checked also but still feels that the ablation is needed. He wants to do an EP study and ablation at the same time. I have worn a monitor which showed a lot of irregular beats and that is why he wants to do the ablation.
Thank you for your advice. It is good to hear of good results from the ablation. That makes me feel better.

My wife had radio ablation performed on her heart several years ago. It was a huge success.

If your cardiologist feels you have electrical impulse problems with your heart, it may not related to your thyroid.

Did you discuss your thyroid condition with the Cardiologist?

Has he run tests to pinpoint the nerve problem in your heart? Those tests are very acurate and can zero in on a specific nerve or bundle of nerves and trace electrical pulse pathways.

I'm not saying it could not be related to your thyroid problems. I just think you could have more than one problem going on, and the ablation may be the proper course.

You could always go for a second opinion based on the test results your Cardiologist came up with.

Best wishes whatever decision you make.

Yes next week! I am not sure that I want to do that until I know that my thyroid is not the real problem. I feel like if I could get my thyroid right that my heart would be better. So at this point I don't know what to do! Any ideas? I am waiting on new blood work where they are checking my thyroid levels again, but they just checked them three weeks ago so I don't expect a change.

They have already checked my thyroid and they say everything is fine and do not want to change my dosage, but I agree I think it has something to do with my thyroid. How do I make the doctors see that though?

Maybe the dosage of the Meds needs to be changed. Talk to the Endo about it. After all you have been on them for several years. The body changes and maybe your has. All the things that you are describing are things I have read can happen with a dysfunctional Thyroid.
