Thyroid and swelling

I have hypothyroidism.
I have recently had 2 episodes with alarming mouth & gum swelling, redness, some tongue swelling & sores.  I figure out what these episodes happened and if they are related to my thyroid condition.  I do not have any known allergies.  I'm 48 yrs old.

3 Drs have said they have seen nothing like it.  Histamine injections, antibiotics & in one case liquid steroids were used simultaneously and worked. Healing occurred within 1 and 3 days respectively. I had a very sore throat several hours before each episode.

I'm concerned about when it another episode will occur.  And if I will be in an emergency situation with the swelling.
Thanks for any input or ideas.

my nodule has gone from 4.1 cm to 5.5 cm in five years. My new endo guy suggests having 1/2 of my thyroid gland removed immediately. However this is scary to me as he did not suggest drawing it down with a needle aspiration or with a thyroid drug. I'm confused. Should I get a second opinion?
