I am a 35 year old male and when getting a CT scan for chest pain a bit over a year ago they found two nodules on my thyroid. I had an ultrasound and my doctor said it was nothing to worry about. I got a new doctor and he ordered a new ultrasound and biopsy. Here are my ultrasound results:
FINDINGS: The right lobe of the thyroid measures 2.5 x 5.7 x 2.3 cm
and the left lobe of the thyroid measures 2.7 x 5.7 x 1.7 cm. Thyroid
isthmus measures 3.6 mm.
There is a right thyroid nodule in the mid to lower pole which
measures 17 x 14 x 19 mm on the current and measured 13 x 8 x 13 mm
on the previous study of 10/21/2014. This appears to be solid
somewhat heterogeneous but not particularly hypervascular.
There is a left mid pole thyroid nodule measuring 22 x 13 x 18 mm on
the current study also predominantly solid slightly hypervascular and
previously measuring 17 x 9 x 14 mm.

The smaller of the two increased 230% and the larger 140% by total volume in between ultrasounds. I have had a biopsy thus far of the larger of the nodules, which had the following result:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The thyroid biopsy is inconclusive.
We need to repeat the biopsy in about 2 months
Final Diagnosis
FNA, thyroid left
Follicular lesion of undetermined significance
Follicular cells arranged in crowded groups with some
microfollicles
Some clotting artifact
No colloid

My endocrinologist tells me there is less than 1% chance my nodules are malignant, but I wanted to post and see if I could get any advice from other sources. I have read that nodules in males, especially at my age, are much more likely to have cancer when nodules are present compared to females. Also, they are not forthcoming about what exactly my biopsy means, only saying that it does not increase the chance of cancer at all.
I am going back for another biopsy in about a month, and a biopsy of the smaller nodule as well by my request. Is there anything else I should be doing, or other tests I should consider? I also have unexplained pain the last couple months in my left shoulder, bicep area and tricep both with movement and at rest, with no injury occurring to those areas. I guess my other question would be if it is possible the thyroid is malignant, is it possible it could spread somewhere that would cause that pain?
