Levothyroxing 300 mcg. HIGH?

I had to find a new doctor. They ordered blood tests. My TSH level was 10.23. The doctor tried to prescribe Nature Thyroid but the pharmacy (And all other pharmacies in town) didn't have it (Manufacturer is back ordered for 3 months now). So, the pharmacists gave me 150mcg of Levothyroxine and told me to take 2 tablets daily before breakfast. It sounded like a bit much to me, but I did it anyway, for 2 days. I came down with symptoms of an overdose of Levothyroxine, called a 24/7 nurse hotline, and was instructed to call Poison Control. My doctor won't be back in her office until Monday....

Wow that's high. My TSH was 6 and I was hyperthyroid for the first week taking 50 mcg.

What dosage of NatureThroid did the doctor prescribe?  The pharmacist is not authorized to change a medication and prescribe a dosage like that.  300 mcg of Levothyroxine is very high and it would be very rare to start out on such a dosage.  You could even have gotten by with no medication until Monday or there are other brands of desiccated hormones that would have been better than switching to Levothyroxine, although I don't believe the pharmacist has the authority to switch to other brands of desiccated hormones either without the okay from your doctor.

That said, it takes 4-6 weeks for a dosage of Levothyroxine to reach full potential in your blood.  What symptoms of overdose were you having?  What did Poison Control tell you to do?   I'm assuming they told you not to take anymore of the Levothyroxine until you talk to your doctor?

Get checked for Hashimoto's Autoimmune Disease.  It is a thyroid disease and many of us are walking around not knowing that we have it. It is a simple blood test.
I'm aware of Hashimoto's and what it is; even at that, the pharmacist is not authorized to change a prescription in such a manner...
