Tingling in the fingers

Hi I would like to know if anybody has tingling in the fingers & sometimes in the chest area. The stonger the tingling the more trouble i have sleeping. My last tsh was 6.5 & my endo started me on synthroide but the tingling got progressively worse  & also got less sleep.
thanks Nuch

I dont know if this will help with any of your cases but coincidentally I was having the same problems with my fingers going numb.  Not my hands just the finger tips.  I went and seen the doctor who said she thought it was probably just Raynaud's Syndrome, which is common in alot of smokers.  Just to be safe though the doctor sent me for an MRI of my neck to be sure there wasn't a nerve or something damaged in my neck.  When I had the MRI there we're no neck problems but incidentally they found nodules on my thyroid and that is how I found out I had a thyroid problem.  The only problem that throws off this whole theory for me is that all my thyroid function tests we're normal.  I only had a problem with the nodules.  Mine ended up being pap. carcinoma and I had to have a TT on 2/18/08.  So when I read this post I decided to look up Reynaud's Syndrome and I found that it can be secondary to hypothyroidism.  I read about Reynaud's from the wikipedia, so you can check it out for yourself and see if it fits your symptoms.

It also may be worth investigating this with your doctor. Hypo T patients suffer bloating and inflammation. This could be your situation also. I know I have developed this situation and find my fingers and hands are very uncomfortable due to water retention. My lungs abd chest (sometimes back too) hurt alot and I am finding that when I feel swollen that is when I experience my chest problems. I try to weigh myself once a day to see the increase or loss and where I feel the most swollen. So far I have found no help except a suggestion of water pills. I am not sure if I wasnt to go this way at the moment.  I have notice I can gain up to 10 pounds at times with in a week and lose it by the other. On MArch 3 I weighed 163 and by March 12 I weighed 155.

I am still confused on this thought - but I am trying to learn more at this time.

Perhaps there is an inactive ingredient in the Synthroid that you are intolerant of.

You could ask doctor to try an rx for  Levoxyl- another brand name t4 med with different fillers.

It is also possible that 4 weeks wasn't long enough to see a change and that the dose wasn't high enough. I still had tingling when I was on 25 mcg but it went away after a few weeks on 50 mcg.

Did you have the TSH while you were still on the synthroid?

I took synthoide for 4 weeks and stopped.Had blood tests done & still waiting for results to see if my tsh went down. As i went on taking synthoide the tingling got worse. My tsh should of went down on the medication so the tingling should of been less.
Thanks

I had the same thing in both hands while sleeping when I was hypo. As my TSH dropped, the tingling and numbness went away.
