thank you thyquestions and Barb135!
I really appreciate your input.
thyquestions, I had a celiac panel run during my last round of testing. A few items came back showing some antibodies, but not high enough levels to suggest it was indeed celiac. My sister in law has celiac disease, so I thought it would be worth a shot asking my dr. to run the test since I have such bad stomach issues.
My husband is hooking up my tanning bed this weekend since these cold Ohio winters are a bear for getting sunlight!
Hashimoto's does not actually *cause* vitamin D deficiency. It's just common for those of us with Hashi to BE deficient.
The 2 main causes for low levels of vitamin D may be due to 1) poor absorption of vitamin D from the intestine or 2) the body may not activate vitamin D properly. In addition, if you don't spend enough time in the sun, you may become deficient.
I am new here, not an expert, but I think Yes. I don't know about kidney, but I have absorption issues, high gluten sensitivity for one, and after months on 5000 iu+ D3 per day, my levels aren't rising either. My level isn't as low as yours.
imho, you have to get your Vit D raised because that deficiency alone could be wreaking serious havoc. I know others who are doing mega doses, and for some it seems to work, and others need something like 8000 per day. Since you have Hashimoto's, you may also have celiac's (and leaky gut), which would definitely impact absorption.
