Vivid Dreams

Ok.. this might sound strange, but it's not a joke!  I have researched and can't find any connections... so, I have noooo idea if this is in any way related to thyroid disease, but I just thought I'd pose the question:

Does anyone else have extremely vivid dreams?

Sometimes I can't remember if I dreamed something or if it really happened - that's how realistic and vivid my dreams are.  I usually have at least 2-3 dreams per night that I can remember, and I've been like this for as long as I can remember.  I don't know anyone else who is like this except my mom, so I thought I'd throw it out there.

I was dx hyperthyroidism 2 years ago. I didn't like taking the medication. My rheumatologist orders blood work every 3 months so I just have her check my thyroid while we're at it and it's been fine as of June so I have not been taking my methimazole. But over this last weekend I couldn't stop crying, sleep has been poor and when I am "sleeping" I am having very vivid dreams having difficulty differentiating between dream and awakened state and incredibly significant brain fog.

This morning it occurred to me that my thyroid is responsible for these symptoms. I take Actemra and methotrexate, folic acid and a MVI.

Thanks guys... I'm on Synthroid now, but in the past have been on Zoloft, Paxil, Prozac and/or other drugs.  I guess I have noticed an increase in the dreams since I've been on the thyroid meds, but I just attributed it to the fact that I am more normal during the day... before I just felt like I was in a fog all the time.

It's nice to know I'm not a weirdo :)

Thypatient - I too dream in color!  I didn't know not everyone did either.  How odd.

I do.  I have no idea whether it's related to thyroid though.

I always dream in full color too.  I remember being shocked to learn that not everyone did.  In fact, I was told that most people don't dream in color at all and if they do it's only partially.

When I wake I have to sometimes take a second to realize it was just a dream.

Even though my dreams are vivid I can usually piece together why I dreamt this or that, so I usually don't attribute meaning to them other than a review of things.

Sounds like a side effect of certain anti-depressants.

Medication for thyroid disease and anxiety meds can have this effect on thyroid patients.

Are you on meds - even if they are not thyroid related?

Post those if possible.
